1. FIND THE RIGHT HAIRCUT FOR YOU
a girls hair can do so much for her look altogether! personally, having my hair under control instantly makes me feel more sane. glowing up is all about improving yourself so figure out what hairstyle works best for you and get it!! for me long hair always looks best so i’m making it a goal this year to grow it out. maybe it’s time to get some layers, go a little shorter, cut some fringe, or get a whole new look altogether. find out what would look best with your skin tone, face shape, style and get that style!
2. KEEP THOSE LIPS FULL AND MOISTURIZED
nobody likes chapped lips. invest in some good lip balm and keep those baby’s moisturized. try some lip stick that compliments your skin tone and give it a go. one of my favorite tricks to bigger lips is sugar scrubs. i take some sugar, cinnamon, and coconut oil, mix it into a paste, and scrub it on my lips with a towel twice a week. it gets off all the dead skin, plumps your lips, and leaves them feeling super soft.
3. MASTER YOUR MAKEUP
weather it be glam or natural, find out what makeup compliments your face best and master it! practice practice practice!! messy makeup instantly gives off a first impression of sloppiness which is very unattractive. makeup should be used to spruce up your face, NOT cake it down.
4. LET YOUR LOOK REFELCT YOUR CONFIDENCE
be bold, be you! don’t try to mimic what everyone else is doing. fast fashion and temporary trends may seem cool at the time but they’re called fast for a reason! give it a month or two and everyone will be obsessing over new hairstyles, clothes, etc. trust me i’ve tired myself out trying to keep up these before and it’s not worth it. all it will do it exhaust both you and your bank account. the most strikingly beautiful people are that way because they stand out from others. what looks good on everyone else might not be the best for you. find a look that suits you!!!
5. EAT HEALTHY AND DRINK WATER!!
i know this is an obvious but eating healthier and getting all your nutrients and vitamins will make you glow from within! it also elevates your mood and metabolism which instantly boosts your confidence! healthy looks different on everyone but everyone looks best healthy! (btw do NOT confuse the word healthy with skinny)
6. DONT OVERKILL YOUR LOOK
this is so important!!! i can’t tell you the number of times i’ve seen beautiful girls completely overkill their look with too much makeup/accessories/clothing/etc. try to keep your look minimal. pick and choose what you want to stand out. otherwise, no matter how pretty you are, people won’t know what to direct their attention towards. for example if your going out with wild hair (hair extensions, highlights, volume, etc. at the same time) tons of makeup, lots of jewelry... it may be time to take a step back and focus on one of those instead of trying to make them all work at once.
7. MASTER THE EFFORTLESS LOOK
ahh the effortless “i woke up like this” look we all dream about mastering. well i’m here to tell you it’s not as hard as it seems. all it takes is being confident in your natural beauty (go easy on the foundation and whatnot) and keeping your overall look neat with a slight hint of laziness. style your hair to perfection per usual but take a minute to mess it up a TINY bit. untuck part of your t shirt. give off the appearance of not trying to hard for your beauty, like you naturally wake up with perfect waves and rouge tinted lips. after awhile this will become the norm and you’ll actually stop putting so much thought towards your vanity.
8. FIGURE OUT YOUR STYLE AND STICK TO IT
now i say this loosely. it’s super important to know what YOU like to wear and what looks the most flattering on YOU to YOUR standards but don’t beat yourself up for wearing a forever 21 dress that everyone else is. try out different styles until you find one you’re comfortable in. try the thrift store for some cheap accent pieces or DEPOP for that super specific thing you needed to complete your look.
8. MAKE SKINCARE A PRIORITY !!!
!!!!! take care of your skin !!!!!! cleanse, tone, moisturize, and repeat. change your pillow cases often and keep oily hands and phone screens off your precious face. everybody’s skin is different so figure out what works best for you and don’t let up on your routine!
9. EMPASIZE ONE FEATURE AT A TIME
everyone has favorite feature/assets. if you try to show them all off it once it may be too much and take away from the individual beauty of each. i try doing my makeup according to this rule. some days i’ll do very minimal eye makeup but wear bright red lipstick to highlight my pouty smile. other days i switch to clear lip balm and wear pink eyeshadow to bring the blue in my eyes. a good rule of thumb is to stick to one facial feature and one body feature to highlight everyday. no more!
10. CREATE CONTRAST
contrast creates a striking look that will cause others to do a double take. i noticed when i dyed my hair dark brown (i’m naturally blonde) that it instantly brought out my blue eyes and complimented my pale skin. contrast can be created through your clothes, hair, makeup, nail polish, accessories, etc. it works the same exact way in art. after all... you are one big beautiful unique piece of art!!!
