“Russian Rapunzel’s” Death Ruled as Suicide

Ruslana Korshunova seemed to have it all. She was young, slim, tall, and her stunning beauty earned her the nickname “Russian Rapunzel”. In 2005, she was hailed by British Vouge as the “face to be excited about”. Russian Vouge and French Elle called her the “fashion’s muse of the moment”. Her modeling work spanned Marc Jacobs, DKNY and Nina Ricci -everything that other models would die for.

So why did she take her life last June 28? Here’s the latest news about her death:

The mother of dead Russian super model, Ruslana Korshunova, has arrived in New York to take her daughter’s body home. Ruslana plunged from her ninth floor apartment in a Manhattan high rise, in what police say was almost certainly suicide. She died four days before turning 21.

Police in New York reported no signs of a struggle inside the model’s apartment and witnesses say they saw her leap from her balcony on Saturday, just three days shy of her 21st birthday.

-Aftermath News

According to the medical examiner’s office, the cause of death was “blunt impact injuries”.

Even the supermodel’s boyfriend had no inkling why Ruslana decided to take her own life in that desperate plunger from her Manhattan apartment.

Meanwhile, in an interview with the NYDailynews, a close friend said that when Ruslana broke onto the global modeling scene in 2005, she hated her hectic life.

I’m so lost, will I ever find myself?” were the words that she wrote in March on her page on a Russian social networking site.

It’s unfortunate that a stunner like her would have to succumb to what seemed to be a bout of depression - but for a young Kazakhstani model to suddenly find herself being thrown in the limelight in a foreign land -it all may have proven to be too much.

Heather Locklear’s Bout of Depression

Apparently, even celebrities who seem to have all the riches, attention and almost anything that they want in the world are susceptible to bouts of depression.

Kirsten Dunst: ‘All Good Things’ & A Bout of Depression

I distinctly remember Kirsten Dunst as the adorable snaggletoothed little girl who stole the scene from Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in “Interview with the Vampire”. Aside from this and other impressive movies in her filmography, the rest of the world adored her as Mary Jane in the Spiderman movies. So what has this 26-year old beauty been up to lately? On the last week of May, she was seen filming the movie “All Good Things” with Ryan Gosling in Carl Schurz Park in New York City. A couple of months back, however, the actress was admitted at the Cirque Lodge Treatment Center in Utah, the infamous rehab center for the stars. Kirsten recently broke her silence about the real reason behind her month-long stay at the center. She’s not into booze or drugs – it’s just your ‘regular’ bout of depression. The actress probably got tired of all the gossip about why she had to stay in the posh treatment center in the first place, that is why she finally broke her silence on the issue.

Rain stop play.

I hae a great post about depression stuck in another window. I am annoyed and tired. Therefore, there will be no post of great sympathy and substance tonight.

I would urge you to read Babylune’s post about checking yourself for post partum depression, and then exploring all the great advice in her related posts.

Is Britney Suffering from Post-Partum Psychosis?

On “The View” show this morning, the women (namely Rosie) discussed Britney Spears’ sad state and suggested that she may be suffering from post-partum psychosis or depression of some kind.

According to Women’s Health:

A woman may have rapid mood swings, from depression to irritability to euphoria as well as delusions, hallucinations, sleep disturbances, or obsessive thoughts.

Some symptons of post partum psychosis according to WebMD:

Although any women with PPD can have fleeting, frightening thoughts of suicide or harming their babies, women with rare postpartum psychosis experience these thoughts as urges they feel compelled to act on.

E! News reports the hairstylist reaction to Britney’s need to shave her head:

“She wasn’t very talkative, in fact, I kept talking to her about the kids, and I asked about her baby, hoping that I could convince her and talk her out of continuing,” added Esther Tognozzi (the hair stylist who refused to shave Britney’s head).

She said that Spears didn’t appear to be under the influence of anything and remained “emotionless” for the most part, “except for when she said, ‘Oh my god, my mom’s going to be so upset,’ and she had tears in her eyes.”

Feelings such as these can drive any “normally sane” person to seek other ways to relieve their pain- including unhealthy attention- seeking behavior, or a quest for mood alteration through substances or alcohol. Photos seen elsewhere of her reaction to Kevin Federline’s refusal to see her children reflects her current state of mind.

The women of The View seemed to have positive thoughts for Britney, agreeing that she has positive, supportive people in her life that will be there for her and help her get through this. Their hope was that she will recover from this ongoing episode in her life.
