Knock Knock! Who’s There? CANCER!

By Ms. J

I guess I don’t have to tell too many of you how devastating it is to hear that diagnosis. Cancer is at an all time high and tearing families apart. It appears that much emphasis is placed on breast cancer but there are so many other types of cancer taking peoples’ lives as well. Since cancer is not prejudice as to who it will attack, we must all make every attempt to eat healthier, exercise, avoid stress and laugh as often as possible. Do not hesitate to make doctor appointments because you fear what the diagnosis may be. Better to find out sooner than later.

How Young is Too Young for a Hysterectomy?

By Denise Kenney

On September 8th, 2008 I had a hysterectomy. I am 23 years old and by the graces of God had two beautiful girls with one ovary. They are the ages of 1 year and 2 months. My dr. tells me at my check up that I have been bleeding for 8 weeks (after having my second daughter) because there is still placenta in my unterous. The nurse proceeds to tell me that this is very rare in a c-section delivery. So they are now telling me i have to go have a DNC done.

Laughter Anyone?

By Julia Drake

Seriously, how often do we laugh? And would we do it more, if we knew how good it was for us?

Yesterday I took a meditation class at my local Yoga studio. Anything to tame that monkey mind of mine. Especially lately, with being newly wed, broke, and scared about the future, my mind has been running a mile a second, piercing me with daggers about my impending doom and failure to survive in this world. So when the meditation teacher said, “Bliss is our natural state,” it felt good, but didn’t help. In the following 35 minutes, when all students were asked to sit still, with their eyes closed, observing their thoughts without judgment or attachment, my thoughts attacked me like a blood-thirsty pack of lions, tearing my mind into pieces. I didn’t know about the other students (since my eyes were closed), but I was sure that they were all indulging in their natural state of bliss.

Irritable? What the @%&# Do You Mean, I’m Irritable?

By Allison Davidson

Okay, let’s just go ahead and say it….. I’m menopausal. Having a hysterectomy last year has forced “the change” upon me long before I was ready for the experience. Am I grateful that my doctor was able to perform this operation and end my agonizing physical pain? Absolutely. What I wasn’t prepared for, however, was the emotional drain that would follow. I’ve come to grips (literally) with the infamous menopausal mid-section…the already jiggly tummy now flapping about irreverently, mocking my every move. The occasional hot flashes are offset by chillness that has me reaching for a sweater when the thermostat reads 76 degrees. Lotions and potions help keep my crinkly skin somewhat softer and smoother. But why the heck am I so grouchy?!?!?

Being Pregnant Down Under

By Kristyn Levis

For those not in the know, I’ve been knocked up. But it’s okay since it’s by my husband.

This situation opens a whole new level of experience for me in Australia. Being on your own in a foreign country brings out so many issues you never thought off before.

My husband’s family doesn’t live in Sydney, and mine is obviously all the way in Cagayan de Oro. That makes us basically alone in this city down under.

Why You Need an Annual Visit to the Doctor

The average woman pays more attention to her children’s medical history or pet’s vet schedule than her own health. Though research has shown that the more involved and informed patients are in managing their own health, the better their outcome, many don’t recognize the importance of taking charge of their health until it’s too late.
