Good for: Teen girl, at least 14 years old
This appeals more to teenaged girls than boys, but boys can do it just as well. Make sure your son or daughter is old enough (at least 14) and has been certified in child CPR by the Red Cross before they work, and also make sure they have worked out a work and payment schedule with the parents.

Dog Walker

Good for: Girl or boy, at least 12 years old
This would be perfect for a teen boy or girl who loves animals and being outdoors! Lots of neighbors have large dogs that don't want to be cooped up inside all summer long, so they can hire your son or daughter (at least 12) to walk their dog. Make sure the dog is healthy and up-to-date on shots, first, and make sure the dogs are always on a lead.

Library Aid

Good for: Girl or boy, at least 12 years old
Some libraries hire tweens to shelve books or supervise kiddie craft time, and this would be a great summer job for a little bookworm. Check with your local library early in the spring, though, since these jobs tend to go fast!

Car Wash

Good for: Girl or boy, at least 10 years old
Another great way for your child to earn money this summer is by washing cars. The owner provides the hose and the car, and your chlid provides the human power, rags, bucket, and suds. Make sure you and the child both know the owner well, and make sure your child is always well-supervised!

Do you have neighbors who need their lawns mowed? Send you son or daughter with a push-mower and a rake, and let them earn a little extra money! Be wary of summer weather hazards, like sun stroke, and encourage your child to drink plenty of water to keep them hydrated!

Aside from mowing lawns, there's a lot of other yard work your neighbors may need done, like planting, watering, weeding, and even vegetable garden harvesting. This is a great way for your chld to earn extra money this summer, and for them to learn a little about gardening!

Lifeguard Photo Credit: astrycula
Good for: Teen boy or girl, at least 16 years old
Most public pools and beaches hire seasonal lifeguards. This is a great way for your teen to learn responsibility and also for them to spend time outdoors! they'll have to take a lifeguard class and pass several tests before they can be certified, but being a lifeguard is a job any teen would covet!

Recycler Photo Credit: Heaven`s Gate (John)
Good for: Girl or boy at least 10 years old
Some neighbors may want to recycle, but don't have the patience or time. Let them hire yor youngester to do it for them! Most children nowadays are being taught about the importance of recycling at school, so they'll be excited to help out, especially when pay-day comes!

Those are just a few great ideas for summer jobs for your kids. I've done a few of them myself as a teenager! Which of these have you, or your children, done? Can you suggest another summer job for kids or teens? Please let me know!
