7 Ways I Love to Try Essential Oils ...
By Kati

I love essential oils! They are so useful...you can use them for so many different things, and there is a variety that everyone will love! But while the popularity of essential oilshas been rising in recent years, most people still don’t really know how to use them. I know I managed to achieve a rather large collection I had no idea what to do with...here are my favourite ways to use them!

Lavender oil is famous for being calming, and it’s so easy to use. Sprinkle a few drops across your pillow before you go to sleep to relax you and help you to gently fall asleep, or use the oil to massage your feet...the smell is just so soothing that you won’t possibly be able to resist it.

2. As an Emergency Treatment

Lavender also makes a great handbag essential. Use it to stop a nosebleed, by applying a small amount to a tissue wrapped around a small amount of ice, and holding it to the middle of the nose. Rub a few drops on your lips to soothe and heal chapped lips, or massage around scars to prevent scar tissue from forming. It’s amazing stuff!

3. Add Flavour to Food

Make your cooked foods even more delicious by adding a few drops of lemon oil, which will give it a fresh, delicious flavour! You can also dilute 3 – 4 drops of lemon oils in some cool water, and ‘wash’ fruit in it to preserve its freshness.

4. Relieve Your Stomach

Rub 4 – 6 drops of peppermint oil around your stomach and naval to relieve tummy ache, indigestion, flatulence and diarrhoea. It’ll also make you smell divine, although it can dry your skin out, so make sure you moisturize after its worked its magic.

What you choose to wear while working out can have a significant impact on your comfort and performance. One essential item is the sports bra. Lack of proper support can lead to discomfort and muscle tissue damage. Choosing a good sports bra can help prevent these problems and ensure a great workout!

5. Reduce Inflammation and Pain

Massaging peppermint into inflamed skin will soothe the skin and muscle and help it to find a more natural position. It is also excellent on unbroken skin, to stop itching, and to relieve pain on broken skin. Never rub it into the wound, though, as this will sting quite badly...be really careful just to apply it around the wound.

Use five or six drops of wintergreen oil to massage into your neck and head, and sniff your hands. The deep, fresh scent will calm your mind, while it soothes your head and neck pains and gets rid of headaches. It’s the best natural cure I’ve ever tried!

7. Stop Toothache

Wintergreen is also excellent for your teeth. Put a drop on your toothbrush to give it extra cleaning power, or mix a few drops with olive oil and massage into painful gums. You can even mix a drop with ¼ teaspoon of baking soda to make your own toothpaste! It will clean your teeth, relieve your gums and leave your breath smelling divine.

I can’t believe I’ve never discovered these before...I use them all the time now! From cleaning to beauty and health, there are so many things you can do with essential oils, and they are so beneficial. My house always smells gorgeous now, with the mix of oils I use. Have you found a great way to essential oils? Please let me know!

One I've been trying is citronella as a mosquito repellent, diluted in water in a spray bottle. It does seem to be working, thankfully!
