Are Women Supposed to Be Thin or Curvy?

**By Christie Harris **

Are women supposed to be thin or curvy? This is a good question to ponder. As the years and decades pass, we have seen different shapes and trends for the female body in the celebrity world come and go. We have seen curvy shapes as in Marilyn Monroe. We have seen super thin shapes as in Twiggy Lawson, the famous English supermodel. Oh how everyone tried to have the Twiggy build during that era. In more recent times, we have seen body shapes of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Paris Hilton, Nicole Riche, Ally McBeal, Halle Berry, Beyonce Knowles, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Hudson, Eva Longoria Parker, and Gabrielle Union. This list of celebrities shows that there are many different body shapes in today's era. It is now known that more and more celebrities are straying away from the concept that super thin is the only shape that is beautiful. Women of today seem to be sending the message that whatever shape you are comfortable with as long as you are healthy is okay. Are women supposed to be thin or curvy?

The answer lies within you. Are you comfortable with who you are the way you are? Are you healthy and fit? Do you look healthy or do you look frail, pale, and malnourished? Do you have a healthy BMI? Do you feel at your best at your current weight (energized, do not tire easily)? Yes, the answer lies within each individual woman. Your body's build needs to be the build that is naturally you. I know many naturally thin women and they look beautiful and healthy. However, I also know a few women who are not naturally thin (the thinness is forced) and they do not look healthy. Therefore, be happy with who you are and learn to love your body**** no matter the shape, no matter the popular trend as long as you are healthy. I guarantee if you are healthy, look healthy, then you are beautiful inside and out. What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with my point of view? tia? the body of a teenage boy? maybe you should think before you insult pepole about something so shallow as the way they look.

As a woman with thick thighs,a bubble butt and thick legs I was always told by women's fashion magazines to 'cover up' as much as possible to hide the unflattering parts of your body,I'm a pear shaped (small on top, large on the bottom) I spent half of my life hating my body thanks to society,I ate very little and almost starved myself just to 'fit' in with what was deemed beautiful. I'm in my late twenties now and stopped caring what society sees as beautiful,I'm thick and in love with my body, its amazing and carries me throughout my day, anybody who says your not good enough is toxic and doesn't deserve your time

It's pretty sad that women are convinced that being curvy is unattractive. A woman's body is supposed to have curves. When you go through puberty you develop breasts, hips, and and more fat on your butt. That's normal. It says something about our society that women are saying that in order to be attractive they have to starve themselves until they look like emaciated children or teenage boys because being curvy means you're "fat".

i think its totally unfair to say all skiny chicks are ugly, Im skinny as hell and I remember overeating to make myself fatter and tying a belt tight around my waist to MAKE curves, we are all different shapes and sizes and all beautiful PS my boyfriend loves my flat boobs,if he can love them then Im pretty sure the right guy will accept your flaws

I really do think there are very many different kinds of pretty, but the annoying thing is that the clothing lines don't agree. I have a larger chest and hips and upper thighs, but i'm slender everywhere else. I likie my shape but have not been able to find a single store where i can shop! Jeans never fit right and neither do tailored tops or dresses, They're always tight at the hips and loose on the legs or tight in the chest and baggy in the middle, and the drapy style just makes me look like i have no waist. These clothes look adorable on slim figures, but shouldn't there be styles for all?

I go back and fourth on this one. Sometimes I think women should be "curvy" because aren't we suppose to be responsible for supporting life? We are the ones who have to carry children, and a little extra meat can be decent enough for a pregnancy. Don't misunderstand me, I am NOT saying you need to be 300 pounds in order to have a baby, but I AM saying that the bigger a womans hips are, the more fertile she is. If you are thin, fine! If you are fat, fine! If you are skinny, fine! If you are athletic, fine! I personally like my narrow waist and wider hips, round butt, and semi-thick thighs. But I don't think it should matter what other women are. We are not all going to be the same. Some women like being thin, and that's okay. A lot of times smaller women get bad rap, just because they are smaller. Larger women talk about "oh those skinny bi***s are mean to us!" yet at the same time, some of us wider folk are just as rude to them. I was given what I was given, and I can't change that. I accept who I am, and if women started changing their mentality, we wouldn't have problems with each other. For the most part. :)

I think curvy is very sexy -Heavily overweight, no. Super skinny girls, no (they have the body of a teenage boy)
