Why the Hell Does "the Hills" Cast Make so Much Money?

I definitely understand how the ensemble cast of Friends **turned from a group of nobody's to a **cast **of somebody's who can now command **hundreds of thousands of dollars per episode in any TV show **that they do. And millions of dollars for each **movie.

But the cast of "The Hills"? Take a deep breath before contemplating how much each cast member earns per episode.

These figures are based from Defamer:

Lauren Conrad: $75,000 per episode
Heidi Montag: $65,000 per episode
Spencer Pratt: $65,000 per episode
Audrina Patridge: $35,000 per episode
Whitney Port: $20,000 per episode
******Brody Jenner:** $10,000 per episode
Lauren "Lo" Bosworth: $10,000 per episode
Stephanie Pratt: $8,000 per episode

Isn’t that absolutely insane? If you're like me who's a hater of "The Hills" – you'll be stunned by the fact that a lot of zeros are attached to these people's salaries for that crap of a show.

Whitney makes that much money for each episode – and all she does is ask: "So what did you do this weekend?"

And Heidi and Spencer get to show their faces for all the paparazzi to see for basically doing nothing. Geez, all I can do is sigh at the **unfairness **of it all!

Hahahaha Lauren 75,000??? She makes 125,000 per episode and has made that I believe since the first season. Spencer makes 60,000 and Brody makes 40,000..really none of them make less than 40 grand per episode.

How are these people even important to make a show about them? I'm trying to link them to some rich mogul parent or celebrity parents. Did they just randomly pick some kids from a school and make a show about them? Just curious.

This is a fairly subjective argument, the show is on MTV so it does have a certain demographic of mainly very young viewers who enjoy the show. As far as their paycheck is concerned, they get paid what the market will support. If the show wasn't such a success, they wouldn't get paid at all the show wouldn't exist. Basically, it's "economics 101".
