7 Tips on How to Kiss a Girl for the First Time ...

It seems like everything comes with suggestions, so why not kisses? If the hair dryer and XBOX comes with handy tips, why hasn’t anyone made a list of tips on how to kiss a girl for the first time? Well, my friend, put down the controller, pause Black Ops, and listen up! Being a girl, I know what I love (spontaneity!) and what I hate (bad breath!) in a first kiss, so I can help! Here are a few ideas on how to go about kissing a girl…

1

Get Prepared

If you’re about to kiss a girl for the first time, make sure you’re prepared for the moment… by this I mean make sure you’ve brushed your teeth fairly recently or at least had a mint or a piece of minty gum (like Orbit). If you know your breath is fresh, you’ll feel more confident, and ready to proceed! It wouldn’t hurt to make sure your lips aren’t chapped, too. A little lip balm isn’t a bad idea…

2

Have a Plan of Action

While I’m all for spontaneity, it’s important to have at least a basic sketch of a smooch-plan, once that gives you some privacy. A first kiss isn’t going to be very special in the middle of someone’s noisy party, and might be a little more meaningful on the beach (during summer) or at the park (while sledding in winter).

3

The Kind of Kiss

The first kiss isn’t the time to be trying your skills at tonsil hockey. In other words, a first kiss might go over better, and be more memorable, if it’s sweet (not a lot of tongue) rather than over-sexed and sloppy (lots of tongue).

UPD:

Ideally, the kiss should be a gentle exploration rather than an intense battle for dominance. Instead of darting your tongue in immediately, start with a soft peck and gauge her reaction. If she seems receptive, you can slowly introduce more closeness and passion. Remember, communication is key, even in the silent language of kissing. If the feelings are mutual, the kiss will naturally deepen. However, always be attentive to her comfort level and be ready to dial it back if needed. This shows respect and attentiveness — qualities that are likely to make the moment even more special for her.

4

Where do I Put My Hands?

If you’ve been picturing this marvelous kiss, looking at it from all different angles, you might be wondering where to put your hands when you’re kissing a girl for the first time. If you’re walking and holding hands, you can keep holding her hands while you go in for the smooch, or you can (romantically) brush her hair out of her face a little, then hold her hand again, while you’re kissing. That’s just one scenario… do what feels natural to you, but bear in mind the first kiss isn’t the time to get all fresh and feely with your hands, mister!

5

Make Sure She’s Okay with It!

Chances are, if you’ve been spending a lot of time with a girl, as more than just friends, then she knows you’re interested in her, and she’s interested in you. But if you’re not sure that she’s into you, don’t try to kiss her before you find out! Ask her how she feels. It might seem even more intimidating to ask her, but it might be embarrassing to try and kiss a girl who doesn’t think of you that way.

UPD:

Consent is absolutely key in intimate situations. You want your first kiss to be a cherished moment, not an awkward memory. Flirt, listen, and observe — her body language and responses will add layers to what words convey. If she's leaning in close, making consistent eye contact, and engaging with flirtatious banter, these are positive signs. Remember to be respectful and clear; an enthusiastic "yes" is the green light you're looking for. Don't rush it, good things come to those who wait—and listen!

Be Prepared to Laugh a Little

First kisses can be awkward (trust me, she’s just as nervous as you are), and a lot can go wrong (bumping heads, brushing noses, you get the idea). If you do have a minor kiss mishap, your first reaction will be to laugh a little, and feel free! It will help ease the tension, and you might even get another kiss!

7

Move in, Close Your Eyes, and Go for It!

Part of the reasons first kisses are so memorable is because they’re completely impossible to predict. You won’t be able to plan for every possibility, right? If all else fails, wing it a little! Get closer, move in, and kiss the girl!

Okay, feel free to continue playing XBOX… or maybe call or text that girl and see if she’s free for a movie on Friday night? Read through this list again before your date, to make sure you’re prepared… Or if you’re a guy who’s recently made his move, do you have any other girl-kissing tips to share?
