Come up with a Catchy Domain Name

These can be purchased for a relatively price that is paid yearly. Come up with a catchy name that people will remember or at least find interesting enough to make them want to see what you have to offer. Be sure to pay your dues on time so that your domain name doesn’t fall into the hands of someone else. Unpaid names are up for grabs after a certain amount of time.

Take Lessons from Other Bloggers

Learning from the mistakes of others is how I learn best. I think most people actually pick up quite a lot of valid information this way. If you happen upon a blog site that has certain features you find undesirable, then make sure you steer clear of these same features. Make a list of what not to do on your blog site and keep it handy for future reference.

6

Chose a Topic That Isn’t the Same as Other Blogs Already in Place

Fresh information is always a good way to attract enthusiastic readers. If you create a blog that is merely mimicking a popular one, then you might not have much success at drawing people away from the other similar blog sites. You need to have original ideas and unique topics that cause readers to keep coming back for more.

5

Know How to Use Your Blogging Software

Not knowing how to use the software for your blog site is one way to become so frustrated that you find yourself wishing you’d never started a blog site of your own. Software comes with tutorials and there are usually plenty of people willing to help out those who are having trouble understanding how a particular program works. Check for forums based around the software you are using and see what some common concerns are. Chances are if you have a question, someone else has already asked it.

4

Allow Readers to Add Comments

The more comments you obtain, the better you will get to know your readers. Ask for feedback on subjects to find out if they desire more blogs about a particular topic. There might be a request for a blog on a subject you’d never thought about covering. Take your reader’s comments into consideration and answer them as often as possible. Let the readers know you have read their comments and that you care about what they have to say.

Use Relevant Tags

If someone is directed to one of your blog posts because of a specific word entered into a search engine, than the post should be relevant. I find it extremely frustrating when I’m directed to a site that has nothing to do with what I’m searching for. Not only is it frustrating, but it makes me downright mad.

2

Link to Other Bloggers and Their Sites

The more networking you do with other bloggers, the more traffic you will potentially bring to your own blog site. When you come across a blog site that has information that goes well with your own, contact the head blogger and see about linking blogs. You can refer people to the other blog and that person in charge can refer people to your new blog. This is a great way to get more traffic without working yourself to death. This is also how you can meet other fellow bloggers to bounce ideas off of if need be.

1

Post New Blogs Often

Being consistent with your blog posts will enable people to rely on your blog site for new information on a regular basis. People like consistency and knowing when to expect new blogs to appear on your site.

Hopefully thee 8 tips on setting up a successful blog will get you started in the right direction. There is a lot to getting things rolling in the beginning, but it is a blast once everything is in place! Do you have any additional tips for setting up a blog that might be useful to bloggers just getting started?
