Health Insurance
No matter how healthy and fit you are now, it’s always a great idea to have some sort of health insurance if you can afford it. If you can’t, then try to remember that most of your other insurances have some sort of catastrophic health benefit — but I really hope you never need it.
Life Insurance
When my ex-husband bought his motorcycle, I insisted that he increase his life insurance. It’s cheap, and it’s easy to get. If nothing else, it ought to at least cover the cost of having your funeral and interment. At best, it ought to ensure that your spouse and children will be able to afford to live if anything happens to you.

Renters or Homeowners Insurance

Having lost everything I owned twice, once in a fire and once in a tornado, it’s well worth the pennies per day to have it. Be sure to keep a current list of what you have in your home, along with receipts for bigger-ticket items, in a safe place away from home, to make payouts easier.
Vision Insurance
If you wear glasses or contacts, you know how expensive they can be, so it’s a good idea to have a vision plan if you can. If you can’t, at least take out the insurance on your frames — if you break yours, they’ll be pricey to replace, especially if you need an exam first.
Car Insurance
Here in Michigan, it’s the law that you must have at least minimal coverage on your car — you can’t register a vehicle without it. It’s expensive, but again, worth it. Car insurance companies in particular are in the business of making money, not paying claims, so if you do have a claim, be persistent.
