5 House Designs I Love from Movies ...

Ever watched a movie and found yourself paying more attention to the set and not to what's going on with the characters? With bad movies, I do this often; I pay attention to the clothes or the houses. With great movies, I become a happy little bee. My eyes dart from one little set detail to another while my ears are busy keeping track of what's happening. Here are five movies with house/set designs that I find wonderful:

Amelie

Amelie How can you not love Amelie's predominantly red apartment? This movie is one of my all-time faves and I have to say that the quirky set is one of the reasons why I fell in love with the film. I am drawn to Amelie's room, most specifically. Her framed pieces and fun lamps sure are interesting. It's not included in the photo above but the bathroom of her little apartment is also wonderful.

The Bounty Hunter

The Bounty Hunter I blogged (on my personal blog) about loving the movie The Bounty Hunter only because Jennifer Aniston's house was really beautiful in it. Turquoise (and all related shades) always make for a great room color. Add bits of yellow and white and you're golden, figuratively speaking. What I love about this house was the patterns; a cornucopia of organic patterns for any nature-lover.

3

The Holiday

The Holiday If given a choice between a high-end apartment in the city and a cozy little cottage, I'd go for the cottage. Something with a little yard, even though gardening is not my strongest suit. The cottage of Iris on The Holiday is definitely one of my favorites. It looked delightfully lived in and the name was gorgeous, too. Wouldn't you love spending hours in that reading nook?

4

Mamma Mia

Mamma Mia If I can't have a little cottage, I would love a house in a Greek island, please. One that looks like the Mamma Mia set will be more than perfect. But without the paternity drama, of course. What I loved about this house was the use of textile and patterns. The walls reflecting the colors of the ocean looked great, too. And the yard! I can just imagine having lazy, candle-lit dinners in their stone yard.

My Neighbor Totoro

My Neighbor Totoro I know this film was animated. The house you see above is a replica of Satsuki and Mei's house. I said that I loved the houses I mentioned above but Satsuki and Mei's little cottage is my dream house. The study, with its French doors and amazing lighting will be the perfect studio for my boyfriend. (He's an artist.) The attic, just above the studio, will be my craft room/office. The kitchen is just the right size. I love the porch off the rooms; it will be perfect for reading. I can go on and on about how I will use/decorate every little part of the cottage, believe me.

Love. I also love Milly and Daphne's homes in "Because I Said So" and Meryl Streep's in "It's Complicated"

Mamma Mia! I love Smith's house in Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Do you know the name of the picture over the fireplace in Jennifer Aniston's house in the Bounty Hunter? I love that picture and it would look great in my house.

Aww. Amelie's house is adorable! Actually all these are!

Love the Holiday and that bath tub...wow! I still have to see Mamma Mia...but I just watched Letter to Juliet with the same actress Amanda Seyfried...shes so cute!
