Sadly, Paul Newman died in 2008, but by then had chalked up 50 years of a famously happy and devoted marriage to Joanne Woodward. The couple lived a quiet family life away from Hollywood, bringing up three daughters. Perhaps Tiger Woods and his like would do well to follow Newman’s famous quote, ‘Why go out for hamburger when you have steak at home?’

2. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell

Perhaps the most famous unmarried couple in Hollywood, Hawn and Russell show that marriage or not, relationships between actors can endure. The pair have been together since 1983, which is a good long time, and one that shows no sign of ending.

3. Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne

The Osbournes have been together for about the same length of time, which is no mean feat considering the wild life they’ve led. They might not be the kind of couple you’d want to imitate, but something seems to work though, so maybe they’re really made for each other.

4. Sting and Trudie Styler

These two might be equally irritating – but that probably makes them perfect for each other. The relationship has also lasted nearly 30 years, so they must make each other happy.

5. Kirk and Anne Douglas

Now, how about 56 years? That’s certainly a lovely picture of a devoted couple above. It’s not difficult to imagine the Douglases making it to their Diamond anniversary, which in the UK would get you a telegram from the Queen.

6. Simon and Yasmin Le Bon

In his 30 year career, singer Simon must have had countless girls throw themselves at him. However, he preferred to marry wife Yasmin at a quiet ceremony in 1985. How many celebrity couples make it to their silver wedding? In fact, how many non-celeb couples make it that long?

7. Denzel and Pauletta Washington

Did you know that this couple have been together for over 30 years, and married since 1982? I certainly didn’t even know he was married. Perhaps keeping his private life private has helped the marriage endure.

8. Michael and Shakira Caine

The Caines are not that far off celebrating their 40th anniversary! That’s an impressive duration by anyone’s standards. Like all the other couples cited, there has been no scandal associated with their relationship – proof, it seems, that happy couples do exist in show business.

Did you notice that all of these couples have been together for at least 20 years? I also discovered that for many of the famous partners, it was their second marriage – when gloomy statistics are quoted on the higher failure rate of second marriages, it’s nice to see that some are very successful! do you know of any other very long-lived celebrity relationships?
