Ah Europe! I'm pretty sure everyone wants to visit Europe at least once in their lifetime and you should too considering how full of beauty, magic and wonder it is. Add to that some of the world's most extraordinary landscapes, people and experiences! But with the plethora of options, which places should you travel to while you're there. Well, here's a list of the Most Amazing Places to Visit in Europe! You can thank us later. For now, enjoy these gorgeous, most amazing places to visit in Europe.
1 The Italian Riviera ...
Wow, this is such a beautiful place. The Cinque Terre is a gorgeous national park, which connects five quaint villages. Walking routes connect the villages and follow the coastline and offer hikes through gorgeous hills. The villages remain unaffected by tourism, but still boast of amazing Italian restaurants and hotels. They are also within easy reach of Pisa, Tuscany and Genoa. I cannot wait to visit here. Italians are so friendly, and the scenery looks divine! Here are some other places to visit in Italy.
2 Tuscany ...
Another Italian region, Tuscany is simply stunning. The architecture is divine, and the culture is intense. From the historical center of Florence to the Cathedral of Pisa, it's a once in a lifetime experience. Make sure you check out the nature reserves, and enjoy a few bottles of the very famous wine!
Since a school trip here, I've always wanted to revisit this stunning city in Switzerland. The city always seems to me like it's trapped in time, with it's untouched fountains and springs everywhere, and a huge number of waterfalls and valleys. The area is very popular for skiing, and is surrounded by more small villages. I'd love to revisit here, as it's not only of the most amazing places to visit in Europe but in the entire world!
4 The Greek Islands ...
There are plenty of places to visit in Greece. White homes and blue domed churches, cliffs, beaches and the Aegean sea make this a stunning and very popular place to visit. However, there is more to do here then just sunbathe, and I cannot wait to go back and check out the caves and culture that make the Greek Islands one of the best places in Europe.
5 Hallstatt ...
This is a very quaint town, literally just across a lake from an Austrian train station. The world's oldest salt mine is here, and there are plenty of spots to fish and rent boats to drift up the river. Situated between Vienna and Salzburg, here is the perfect place for recuperation before checking out the big cities.
6 Rome ...
Every list of European holidays includes Rome, simply because it is one of the most amazing European capitals. From the history to the culture, Rome has a certain magic to it that everybody should see at least once. I hope to go this Summer, and if you do too, make sure you check out the Colosseum and the Arch of Constantine.
7 Venice ...
I am a big Italy lover, and Venice is another city that is not to be missed. It has its own share of history, art, and gorgeous buildings, but the allure comes from the the pedestrian only streets and Gondola filled rivers. It's just so kooky, and I cannot wait to visit here again.
8 London ...
I've visited London several times, and I never run out of things to do. It's one of my favorite places to visit in the UK and definitely one of the most amazing places to visit in Europe. The city perfectly captures the essence of British life, and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to enjoy. There is also the Natural History Museum, the tube and, of course, red phone boxes!
9 Paris ...
One of the most visited places in Europe, Paris obviously has a lot to offer. From the fashion to the food, there is also the Eiffel Tower and the Notre Dame. I love the atmosphere here. I spent my first week here checking out the history and revelling in the old style buildings, so make sure that you too visit this amazing gorgeous city! Here's a list of other places to visit in France.
10 Athens ...
The capital city of Greece, Athens is filled with scents and sights that you are sure not to forget easily. Just make sure you devote enough time as there's plenty to see, plenty to do, plenty to eat and then some more. It's the perfect place to mix exploring and sunbathing! I cannot wait to visit.
11 Amsterdam ...
Despite its reputation, Amsterdam is actually a beautiful city. With it's free running canals, Van Gogh Museum and an explorable Royal Palace, there is enough to keep you busy for weeks, and the city is bursting with life. I can't wait to revisit!
12 Madrid ...
With its lovely temperatures and gorgeous restaurants, Madrid is positively one of the most amazing places to visit in Europe. Spend the day checking out modern art museums, and the nights enjoying tapas and the nightlife. This is a city for everybody, and it's simply unbeatable in terms of simplicity and uniqueness.
13 Barcelona ...
A beautiful costal town, this is a perfect mix of cities and beaches, meaning you can spend your time mixing fun with relaxation. The Mountain fanfare is unmissable, especially if you have children, and I love the Catalan restaurants. Also make sure you don't miss the Sagrada Famalia, which is the jewel of Barcelona’s crown.
14 Berlin ...
This city is going through a big change, which makes it a fascinating time to visit. I plan to visit Potsdam, just outside Berlin, to see the picturesque houses and gardens, and then visit both the East and the West of Berlin while they still have their separate identities. Also make sure you visit the Einstein Cafe, which is a marvelous teashop set in an old manor house.
15 Cornwall ...
An odd place to feature, but nestled in England's lazy leg, Cornwall is definitely worth a visit. I love wandering around the fishing villages and peaceful beaches, and the Eden project is well worth the time. There is also the house of King Arthur, who is a big legend. There are magnificent teashops, fish restaurants, and of course, it's the home of the Cornish Pasty!
16 Copenhagen ...
This is a gorgeous Scandanvian city, and I cannot wait to visit. With sights such as Hamlet's castle, Tivoli gardens, and the Little Mermaid statue, and plenty of museums and art galleries too, the city just captures simplicity. To top it all off, deposit a coin and borrow a bike to sightsee on, and you even get your coin back when you return! Now tell me that doesn't make it one of the most amazing places to visit in Europe.
17 Florence ...
The mighty Medici family kept this city magnificent, and it now hosts several huge art galleries. However, the main attraction must be the Pont D’Vecchio bridge, with its beautiful architecture and thriving jewelry market. I plan to visit here very, very soon.
So that's my list of the Most Amazing Places to Visit in Europe, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I will! Have you got a favourite city, or a story about any of the above? Please share them with me! I love hearing about peoples adventures in beautiful cities, especially when they are in the most amazing places to visit in Europe.

Alessandro Hi, I live in Tuscany, close to Cinque Terre ( soo I guess you think I'm lucky lol)and I'm writing a thesis for my master in Hotel Management.I wish to know what is your opinion about the level of hospitality in Italian hotels. Thank you
Heather HI Alessandro! Thanks for the comment! :) I actually work for hotels, but I've never been to Italy -- have you tried to google any information?
Zoe @anonymous I think when she said she wanted to live in hat country she meant Malta not the continent of Europe
Lyn Come and visit also the greatest waterfalls in europe which is the Rheinfall in Zürich, Switzerland
Heather Definitely going to have to try that! Thanks for the tip!! :)
Clay Yes, Cinque Terre was definitely my favorite in Europe - about 25% above number 2 on my list.
Heather Awesome Clay! Have you ever visited there? :)
silvia where is Albania? there are a lot wonderful place to visit.
Heather Hi Silvia!! Albania is located in eastern Europe across the Adriatic Sea from Italy. It is north of Greece. Sounds like a beautiful place right?
Anonymous My absolute favorite place in Europe is called Sevedsplan, a part of the Swedish city Malmoe. Sevedsplan's beauty is stunning, and with the harmonic atmosphere and lovely people it's absolutely great. The best trip I've ever made!
Heather That sounds incredible!! I can't wait to head to Paris next year, first trip overseas, wish me luck! :)
ikinga We don't have "rivers" in Venice, but "canals". :) It is the sea, Venice is composed by many small islands and they were unified with bridges. Anyway, I live in a small and gorgeous medieval city just 30min from Venice. I have been around a lot all over N. Italy, Alps, most European capitals etc. I really think Italy is amazing with many things to choose from. I think Rome is the most amazing city in Europe (followed by Paris). Secondly, Venice is also amazing but touristy. Tuscany is simply stunning, especially if you drive around and visit smaller villages, like San Gimigniano. Going in 3 weeks to 5 Terre ;). As for the beaches, Maddalena islands (Sardegna, Italy) has stunning pink beaches. Oh, and I forgot: The Dolomities!
Heather Hey ikinga! That sounds beautiful! I have a trip planned to Paris next year and I can not wait to see everything there!
Anonymous Copenhagen only no. 16...? shame shame... must be bc you haven't been there... would be my privilege to show her around... :-)
Sheila That gorgeous huh? I would love to visit! Thanks for stopping by :)
Anonymous Portugal has some amazing places to see as well but people dont realize it because it is a small country. Lisbon, Porto, and Algarve are some of the most beautiful places to visit in Europe as well. Venice is nice in pictures but smells awful
Sheila Thanks for sharing that information! Keep visiting :)
Marty Thank you for this lovely list.. I love to travel and the places in here are idyllic, especially the Greek islands and Hallstatt :))
Sheila Thank you for the compliment Marty! Happy travelling :)
Anonymous I'm massively surprised no one has mentioned Scotland! Edinburgh may not be a big city but it is very beautiful and the festival every August is enjoys world wide fame. Then there's the Highlands and Islands which are stunning and full of history and atmosphere...
Denise Hey hun. Thank you for making a recommendation.
Anonymous For me: London --UK Paris--France Vanice--Italy Stockholm--Sweden Prague--CZ Luzern--Switzerland Barcelona--Spain Rome--Italy Pisa--Italy Vienna--Austria
Swati wonderful compilations of places to see in Europe!! I made my list, thank you, everybody :-)
Anonymous @Sheila, Hey need help on places to visit europe.. im 24 right now in germany.. what places should i goto
Sheila You're very welcome Swati! Happy travelling :)
michael alot of these places are big major cities and you can find alot more beauty in smaller towns as they are untouched in alot of ways. I am from Australia and I live in a beautiful little town in France called Sarlat-La-Caneda in the dordogne, there is so much history there and alot of good restaurants. I recommend to everyone to check it out at least once.
Sheila Thanks for the wonderful suggestion Michael :)
Anonymous That many cities in Italy alone? A lil' overrated, I'd say. As a Scandinavian I would definitely recommend Lapland, esp. the very northern of Norway.
Brandon Love the list...only been to about half of them. Next time you're in Italy go down to Naples and take a boat to the islands of Ischia and Capri...Gorgeous. Little town just outside of Rome called Frascatti, Great place.
Anonymous My list: 1-BARCELONA 2- AMALFI COAST 3- ITALIAN RIVIERA 4- ROME 5- VENICE 6-FLORENCE 7-LONDON 8-PARIS 9-LUGANO 10-LUCERNE
Denise Hi Brandon. You're so lucky to have visited even just half of those places! And thank you for that little tip. I hope to hear from you again!
Anonymous Also, I think Madrid shouldn't be in this list. It's just a big city that happens to be the capital of a country. Not much do see, no «wow!» landmarks, nothing. Just some museums and a big plaza. Lisbon, Prague, Bavaria (Castles like Neushwenstein) and the French Riviera should be in this list instead. Amsterdam is OK, but for people that don't live in Europe I would say not to waste time there, there are a lot of prettier cities with lots of historical sites and astonishing locations. PS: I'm European. ;)
Anonymous Golden Oldie says: Don't miss Budapest... amazing city!!
Danka Lee McQueen: Are you sure about Naples and Greece? In July/August? It is going to be incredibly hot and busy during the summer in those places. Why not Paris - Switzerland - Cinque Terre - Florence Rome or Venice before going to Vienna or Prague? You could do that by train.
Karen Ditto on the Amsterdam I live near there and it's not even in my top 10 cities, pretty boring, you can do so much better. Rome, Barcelona, Athens...
Anonymous Haha Neuschwanstein is the name of the castle. It's the "Disney castle" in southern Germany, or Bavaria.
Anonymous I think you´re definitely not going to be able to visit all these places in such a short span of time. especially when you want to go from paris to greece, because for that you would have to take a plane, and then, only 3 days for greece definitely isn´t enough time.. also, I wouldn´t travel to one place in austria, then to the czech republic and then to austria again, because that takes too much time as well. I would just visit one thing in austria, otherwise it´s just too much. so, summed up, if you leave out greece, it´ll probably be easier for you to manage to visit the other places in that span of time. as for the best way to travel, I think going by train is a pretty good choice. taking a bus takes too much time, and taking a plane is sort of complicated, I think.
Anonymous just wondering, how are you going to travel from paris to greece? by plane?
Lee Hi, I'm planning a trip to Europe on the 15th of july and fly back on the 5th august. I have only booked return tickets from Australia to Paris but plan on travelling around Europe while i'm there. After reading everybody's suggestions i've come up with a little travel plan.My plans are as follows. PARIS 3 DAYS, GREECE 3 DAYS, NAPLES 2 DAYS, ROME 2 DAYS, FLORENCE 2 DAYS, AUSTRIA(hallstatt) 2 DAYS, PRAGUE 2 DAYS, VIENNA 2 DAYS, AMSTERDAM 2 DAYS, PARIS AND BACK TO AUSTRALIA. What do you think of this schedual? Also any other suggestions? also what is the best way to travel via eg. bus, plane, train and what airlines and services should i use? Thanks any help would be appreciated as it is our first time in Europe. Lee
Gilad Lisbon! I absolutely agree. And in Portugal, Azores are astonishing, specially Saint Miguel and Faial islands.
Denise Hello there. I know that for someone who lives in Europe, some of these places may seem like old news. But I'm sure that for those who don't experience places like Madrid and Amsterdam on a regular basis, it will be a wonderful and an amazing experience. Often times, we get so used to life and living that we become jaded and blind to the beauty and mystery around us. Being a visitor in a new place gives us new perspective and new appreciation for the things around us. Thank you, though, for sharing your input. It's great to hear what our readers have to say.
Anonymous *Neuschwanstein Sorry, I don't speak German. :P
Anonymous Hallstatt is located by a lake and not by a river.
Denise Hey there. You are absolutely right about that. Thanks for informing us about the mistake. I'll ask an editor to make the correction. Again, thank you for taking time to comment.
Prem I arrived in Switzerland about 18 months back for work on a two-year assignment. I am an avid traveller and used this opportunity to do a fair share of tourism during my stay in this part of the world. I had been following this link like Bible to plan many of my vacations. I have now seen most of what is cited here. Each of these places are amazing and I must thank the author for it. In particular, I 'd never have known of gems like Hallstatt or Cinque Terre, if not for this page. Even though I agree with most of the choices listed here, I feel that Vienna, Prague, Budapest (may be) and a couple of places from Scandinavia and Eastern Europe should have made it to the list as well to make it more balanced.
Sheila Hi Prem, We're so excited to know that you've actually traveled to these places using our list!! And thank you for your suggestions! We'll add them to the list when we update it! :)
Mike I disagree on Paris. It's soo overrated. My dad says every time he goes there, there's dog doo all over the streets and mean tourists everywhere. I can't believe they neglected to mention Zurich, Switzerland. It's a gorgeous city to walk around in with a history as old as Rome itself.
Beth Rome is by far the best city to see if you only have one chance to get to Europe.
Beth Paris is overrated, been to many other countries that are way more fascinating, and French food is not very good.
Julo, I agree, Paris could be replaced with Prague, Lisbon or Wien. I have never been to Paris, but only thing I heard about it is iron tower and the most expensive street in the world. But can never compare it with Venice or Rome or other cities.
Anonymous I think Paris is the most beautiful city in Europe.
Sheila Hi Mike, Thank you for your suggestion. I've seen pictures of Zurich and it does look amazing! Still, I think it would be a crime to leave Paris out of this list. It is afterall the city of love and all that :)
Misaki Wow... thanks for the wonderful tips... Definitely gonna include them into my itinerary for my next year Europe trip!!!
Sheila Ah Misaki, you lucky lucky girl! Have fun and do let us know how you enjoyed these places :)
Denise Hi Misaki. Welcome to All Women Stalk! We're glad you like the suggested places. We're just happy to help out our readers. I hope you have a fun and safe trip next year!
Fatima I find Barcelona so beautiful. I wish I could live there.
Sheila Hey Fatima, I have been fascinated with Barcelona ever since I watched Vicky Cristina Barcelona. :) Thanks for reading!
michele What a post to wander into...Love everywhere, but especially Italy...Thanks for all of the dream worthy places.
Denise Hey Michele. Glad you loved the post. Italy is also on top of my list of places to visit in Europe. Thanks for reading All Women Stalk!
ali In Florence, if you walk across the Pont D’Vecchio into the little town away from Florence, and you pass all these little piazza's... you will find a road with a sidewalk that takes you past GORGEOUS tuscan homes and a beautiful hotel--If you follow the sidewalk up for about 45 min, past a park, you come to the peak of the mountain and you have the most AMAZING view of all of Florence/surrounding Tuscany... There couldnt be a more gorgeous view of the city; and is best experienced at dusk.
Kika you forgot croatia :)
anna @Beth, So much to see in Croatia! Dubrovnik is gorgeous! and another place that can pass for a magical lake is Plitvica, there are many fabulous beaches there too! Such as "golden horn beach" in croatia. theres much much more too!
Anonymous @Beth, its beautiful waterfront it will be VERY HOT! was there last week hot already - make sure you take there currency - most businesses do not accept US EURO
Beth Talk to me about Croatia, thinking of doing a week there in August, what can I do, which cities to visit? How warm will it be?
Sheila Hi Kika, I've never been but I hear some lovely things! :) Thanks for visiting All Women Stalk!
