Mischa Barton today became the latest female Hollywood celebrity to acquire the least welcome trapping of fame: the police mugshot.
The 21-year-old was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and drugs possession in Los Angeles and spent the night in a police cell.
Following in the footsteps of Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie and Lindsay Lohan, the former O.C. star’s mugshot was released after her arrest in Los Angeles in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Mischa was arrested and handcuffed after she was pulled over while driving her white Range Rover in West Hollywood at about 2.45am.
The LA County Sheriff’s Department revealed she was seen “straddling two lanes of traffic and failed to signal when making a turn”.
Police say officers “determined that she was an unlicensed driver and was driving while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage”.
Mischa was held in police custody for seven hours on $10,000 bail, until she was finally released.
It is unclear who paid her bail, but her Irish-born mother Nuala arrived to collect her.
She was picked up from West Hollywood police station by her mother in a black Mercedes and walked out with her arms crossed and covering her face with a scarf.
Mischa tried to lay down in the back of the car and was given a police escort so nobody could follow her.
When she emerged in public, the usually glamorous actress looked dishevelled, with unkempt locks half hidden under a shawl.
The 21-year old starlet has now joined the likes of Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie in the Hollywood hall of shame following her arrest.
Barton’s friend Nicole Richie served 82 minutes behind bars in August after being found guilty of driving under the influence of marijuana and Vidocin.
Richie’s hotel heiress pal Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan were also jailed for driving under the influence (DUI) this year.
Currently, both Lost star Michelle Rodriguez and 24 actor Kiefer Sutherland are in jail for DUI.
Earlier this year, Barton hit the headlines when she collapsed at a Memorial Day party after suffering an adverse reaction to prescription medication.
The actress was born in London, to her Irish photographer mother, Nuala and English father, Paul Marsden Barton, a stockbroker. But the family, including her two sisters Hania and Zoe, moved to New York when she was four.
Mischa’s new movie Closing the Ring, directed by Sir Richard Attenborough, opens in cinemas in the UK today.
