Broccoli is most notable for its cancer fighting properties. It’s jam packed with nutrients and is a great energy boosting food. It’s a rich source of fibre, vitamins A and C, potassium, B2, and folate. It’s available all year round so there’s no excuse for not including this vegetable in your diet!



Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries… they all make fantastic additions to any diet. They are loaded with antioxidants and phytonutrients, low in calories, and high in fibre. They can help control blood sugar and keep you fuller for longer. Blueberries tend to be the pick of the bunch as they are among the best source of antioxidants and are more widely available.



Nuts are rich in nutrients and may help reduce the risk of heart disease. Look for nuts such as almonds, walnuts, pistachios, or pecans. They make great snacks and are full of protein, heart-healthy fats, and antioxidants. Eat this super food in small portions as they do have a high fat content.



Spinach is an excellent source of vitamin C, folate, and antioxidants. Spinach is great for eyesight as it contains lutein, which can help prevent cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. It’s also noted to improve bone density in women who eat this leafy green on a daily basis. It’s best eaten raw or steamed.



Eggs are a great source of protein. They are nutritious, versatile, and economical. Eggs contain 12 vitamins and minerals, some of which are good for brain development and memory. Some studies have shown that if you eat eggs for breakfast, you are also likely to eat fewer calories during the day.


Kiwi Fruit

Kiwi fruits are rich sources of antioxidants and vitamin C. They are also a good source of potassium, fibre, and vitamins A and E. It can be eaten as is, or added to desserts, salads, and side dishes.



Quinoa is a whole grain which is packed with protein, fibre, and iron. It also contains zinc, vitamin E, and selenium which can help lower your risk for heart disease and diabetes. Quinoa is as easy to prepare as rice. It can be eaten alone or mixed with vegetables and other side dishes.



This fish is renowned for its great taste and omega-3 fatty acid content. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to help protect heart health. It’s low in calories and saturated fats, and is a rich source of protein and iron.



Black, green, and white teas are all great sources of antioxidants. Green and white teas contain substances with anti-inflammatory properties and black teas have been shown to improve cholesterol levels. Teas are also believed to be able to delay and inhibit cancer cell growth.

Great post! I need to talk my mom into buying more kiwi... :) It's good for your sleep, too.

I am also trying to find Quinoa, but my local grocers do not carry it. I will check out Trader's Joe on my next trip.

GREAT CHOICES. I love them all, and if I could, that would be the only thing I ever eat. I have heard lately about quinoa, but had no luck finding it in the store...any suggestions?


You can find quinoa at whole foods or trader joe's. It's really tasty if made with chicken broth instead of water.

Berries are nice especially when served cold with milk
