Recognize You do Not Have Much Time

There is not much time in the day to say yes to everything that comes your way. If you spend your time doing everything someone asks you to do, then you are not going to have enough time to do things for yourself. Perhaps thinking this way will help you learn to say no?

Remember a Request is Simply a Request

Just because someone asks you to do something, that does not mean that you have to. They are simply asking you. If you really can’t do it, then say no to them. If they have a hissy over it, then they’re no worth it anyways.

Offer an Alternative Solution

You could always go ahead and offer the individual an alternative solution when you tell them no. This way, you are not completely blowing them off. As an example, you cannot go with them on Saturday, but you are available next Saturday for them. Remember, you should only say this if you really are available and if you really want to do their request.

Soften It up

When you soften it up, it doesn’t seem as bad. For example “I would love to come to your party, but I am extra busy on Saturday.”

3

Pay Attention to Your Inner Voice

Are you doing it out of guilt? Fear? Pay attention to what that inner voice is telling you. If that inner voice is telling you no, then go with it.

You Are in Control

You should always remember that no matter who you are, you are in control of it. It is not like the person is holding a gun to your head and making you say yes to them. So, remember, it’s you that is in control.

Don’t Be Afraid

Of course, you should not be afraid of saying no. If you are afraid of saying no to them, then you will always end up saying yes. In turns, you will not find any time to do the things that you need to do, because you are too afraid to say no to someone. So, remember, don’t be afraid. They are not going to bite your head off for turning them down.

Those are 7 tips on learning how to say no. I believe you need to take these tips to heart if you are the type of person who can never say no. You should learn how to say this word and learn it smoothly, without stuttering. So, do you have any other tips to give people with this problem?
