Pride and Prejudice: A Classic Love Story.

The best part about love is that it’s unpredictable and hits you when you least expect it to. You can never choose how and who you fall in love with. And that’s exactly why I love Pride and Prejudice. Also the fact, that I am a total sucker for Jane Austen’s work. And really what woman who loves to read classic romantic novels isn’t.

‘Smile’! You’re Married to Colin Firth

What do ”Girl with a Pearl Earring”, “Nanny McPhee”, “Love Actually” and the “Bridget Jones’” movies all have in common? They all star the 47-year old British hunk Colin Firth. He first made American women’s hearts aflutter in his role as Mr. Darcy in the TV adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice” in 1995.

Now, the actor stars with Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan in the film adaptation of Mamma Mia!

Anyway, this post is not actually about Colin Firth but about that ‘smiley’ of a dress that his wife Livia Giuggioli wore at the Mamma Mia! premiere:

Livia Giuggioli, for the benefit of those not familiar with the name, is Colin Firth’s wife, and a film producer/director. From now on, though, we suspect she’ll be known as “that woman who wore the smiley face dress to the Mamma Mia! premiere“, and if she was hoping that this would be her “Liz Hurley” moment, then we’re sorry to have to dash those hopes…

The bottom line, though, is that this dress turns Livia’s body into a giant smiley face. With her nipples as the eyes. And we can’t really get past that. Sorry, Livia.

If you don’t agree, would it change your mind if we told you the back of the dress resembles a giant bumble-bee?

It certainly is an odd choice of an outfit for a woman of her age. I guess a 15-year old girl could’ve pulled it off -but for her? Let’s just say that at least, she really does have something to smile about: she’s married to Colin Firth!

Cold Remedies And Keira Knightly

I promise I’ll stop whining about how sick I’ve been lately…but I think now I’m becoming a little wacko.

Sometimes, for me, a very bad cold can take on some characteristics of depression…so there’s a few things I try to avoid thinking about when I’m sick as I have been, since New Year’s eve:

  1. I try not to worry about work so much.
  2. I try to shut off my mental DVD that would normally have me revisiting my crazy up-bringing, several awful career faux pas, and well, just my overall incompetence.
  3. I try not to look in the mirror too much because…it’s just, well you know what you look like when you’re sick.

But here’s something I’ve not thought about before…you should not watch beautiful movie stars when you’re in this condition.

I happened to have caught Pride and Predjudice…the remake with Keira Knightly.

This girl is so astonishingly beautiful, it became tedious to watch her. She is luminous, mysterious-looking…she’s just one of those stars that you can’t not look at while she’s in a scene.

Julia Roberts used to be my pick for most beautiful star…but she can sometimes take on that “good light/bad light” thing (Anyone familiar with the Seinfeld show?).

Of course, after the movie, I ended up staring at myself in the mirror…wishing I lived in Jane Austin’s England.

I told you, I’ve become totally bonkers with this cold.

Tonight I think maybe I’ll just read. I’m thinking something Sex and the City-ish.

p.s. Whatshername, Apple’s mother, in Emma can have a similar effect on me.
