I love little dogs. I love big dogs as well, but there’s something about a teeny, tiny dog you can carry around on your shoulder all the time. Hollywood’s most giggling starlets apparently agree, since so many of them — Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, psychopath at large Danielle Staub — carry little Chihuahuas and other tiny breeds around in their purses, thus turning their pooches into fashion accessories. So what the heck, let’s take a look at what puppies will go best with your shoes!

Pomeranians

Fluffy and sweet faced, Pomeranians are a big favorite. I had one growing up (and got the little darling for free!), and she was an absolute angel. A lot of people think Pomeranians are high strung and snarky little dogs, but if you take the time to nurture them, they are capable of sugar sweet dispositions -- and yes, typically they can fit right in a purse, if not a pocket.

Oh man, I could just melt. I love spaniels, and the King Charles breed have such sweet, pouty little faces! These are an accessory of choice if you don’t really care about fitting your dog in your purse (really, always think twice about this), but instead just want a cuddly little ball of curls and love and cuteness to curl up in your lap and give you tons of love.

Chihuahua

The dog of choice for a great many starlets, Chihuahuas are one of the most popular breeds of lap dogs. Again, they have a reputation for being high strung and that can happen -- but, yet again, if you nurture them as you raise them, they can be as sweet as candy. From personal experience, if you get a half breed -- mixed with Pomeranian or Papillion, perhaps -- then you can have the sweetest dog known to man. And so cute!

These little guys are full of personality and spunk, and they are fiercely protective. They will attack lint balls, pieces of paper, their reflections in the mirror -- anything to make sure their masters and mistresses are safe and secure! And that little underbite so many of them have is just the most adorable thing in the world.

These dogs fit the definition of being so ugly they are cute -- and come on, they’re not really ugly by any means. Also full of personality in looks and in behavior, these guys are sweet natured and playful, and while they might not complement your Jimmy Choos, they will love you unconditionally and brighten all your days.

These dogs, with their little pansy faces, are too cute for words. Another sweet breed, Maltese babies are playful and full of spunk, and frankly they will go well with any outfit. Actually, they are sure to make you look any better, just by virtue of those little faces!
Poodle

I have never been a particularly big fan of poodles but I would be remiss if I didn’t add it to the list, and I would be a liar if I didn’t admit that some of these curly haired little darlings are cute as can be. One more time, the breed is known to be nervous and high strung, but taking time to draw them out and giving them plenty of love and attention while they grow is a surefire way to make sure you wind up with a lovely little lap dog that has a fantastic personality.
Honorable mentions go out to Dachshunds (and this is dedicated to my own little sausage link), Papillions, and Maltipoos, but what do you guys think? What’s your favorite breed, lap dog or otherwise?
