My family enjoys picnics quite frequently. Sometimes, we enjoy our backyard, and sometimes we visit the park. Many times we visit our favorite lake while we swim, lie in the sun, and eat our scrumptious picnic. I put together a list of our absolutely essential items, along with a few we do not own, but dream about owning one day soon. Here’s to summer!

Canoes or Kayak’s

My family does not own a canoe or a kayak, but we rent them every time we visit Current River. Our favorite vacation place ever, the boys canoe and the girls sometimes join them. We enjoy the river so much! Our plan is to buy a canoe soon! Until then, we will continue to rent.
The Spot

What would a picnic be if you didn’t have the perfect “spot?” Maybe it is your back yard, or maybe it’s the local state park, but wherever it is, use it before the summer is over. My kids will always remember our picnics because we pretty much picnic in the same spot year after year.
Frequently asked questions
Picnic Blanket

Have you ever went on a picnic, and we you were ready to eat, didn’t have anything to place on the ground? I have, and it took a lot of fun out of the day because we left itchy and covered in ants and chiggers! I have learned it is best to keep your blanket with your picnic supplies, and then you will never be without one!
Dishes

Paper plates and cups work great. There’s no clean up and nothing to keep up with. BUT… picnic china is nice for special occasions. If you have a date planned with your husband or boyfriend, or if you are going on a girls only tea, china is so elegant and fun. You will be glad you added this to your picnic supplies!
Picnic Basket

Oh yes, a picnic basket is an essential part of any picnic. I have used plastic bags from Wal-Mart, but baskets are so much prettier and lots of fun! You can opt for a vintage style, or simply buy one at your local retailer, or even shop on line for some great deals. (Especially this late into summer!)

Tablecloth

The tablecloth is just as important as the blanket. Picnic tables can get pretty dirty for the many users and from nature itself. Be prepared, and keep your tablecloth with your other picnic supplies. Wash it after the picnic is over and put it right back with your basket. Don’t leave home without it!
Umbrella

An absolutely essential item, especially for the beach, is a trusty umbrella. This offers shade and a little respite from the sun. Be sure and position the umbrella so that it blocks out the sun! This may sound funny, but I have actually seen beach goers put the umbrella up and never move it as the suns moves around. What good is that?
Well, I hope you are a little more prepared for the best picnic ever! Did you like any of these tips?
