I’ve read about some unusual hotels in my lifetime. The ones listed below are very unique indeed. I’d never come across any of these 10 unique themed hotels from around the world. I hope you enjoy reading about them and maybe even get the chance to stay in at least one of them someday. I thought they each were amazing in their own special way.

Taprobane Island
Photo Credit: See Sri Lanka, Feel Sri Lanka
This is an extremely small hotel that only consists of 5 en-suite bedrooms. There are also 5 staff members to assist you with whatever you need. The little hotel situated on Taprobane Island was built during the 1920s. The land surrounding the hotel consists of little more than 2 acres of tropical wonder. This island hotel is located in Sri Lanka and surrounded by the Indian Ocean. Most visitors to the hotel never leave the island until they are ready to check out of their hotel room.
Daspark Hotel

Have you ever gotten the urge to sleep in a drainpipe? Me neither. However, these rooms do look rather interesting. Each room consists of a bed, a lamp, and a shelf alongside the bed. There are small round windows in the top of the drain pipe to allow a bit of natural light in and a door on one end of the pipe to exit and enter through. That’s about it for these hotel rooms in Austria. The nice thing about these rooms is that you are allowed to pay what you can afford. There’s no set price to stay in one of these drainpipe rooms.

The Angsana Velavaru in Ocean Villas
Each of the two-story villas off the island of Velavaru are suspended in the air above the blue waters of the Indian Ocean. The villas are built up out of the water so that tropical fish can be seen swimming underneath the deck. The Maldives consist of a cluster of islands in which these ocean villas are placed. They are a little more than a mile away from the island of Velavaru and look more like a small community rather than rentable villas.
Wigwam Hotel

If you’ve ever wanted to stay in a concrete wigwam, then this is the place for you. The Wigwam hotel is located in Holbrook, Arizona along historic Route 66. Each room has a diameter of 14 feet and is 32 feet tall. A total of 15 wigwams make up the hotel, some with one double bed and others with 2 double beds.
Propeller Island City Lodge

Berlin, Germany is where this hotel is located. It is basically a giant art gallery for an artist by the name of Lars Stroschen. He is a native of Berlin. Each room is completely different than the next. The entire room includes a theme that is carried out with paintings, murals, floor designs, and even in the shape of the furniture. For instance, one room has a slanted floor and the bed appears to be floating. Another has murals of a city with the bed perched atop an even smaller replica of a city.

Waitomo Motel

New Zealand offers a motel that allows people to sleep in a plane, a train, like a hobbit, or in the Waitanic. The Waitanic resembles a ship and consists of 4 motel units. Not only does Woodlyn Park consist of many unique rooms to stay in, but there is also a show that tells in detail the story of New Zealand’s country life. These motel rooms are located on a sheep shearing farm where people come from all over to take part in other events as well, such as lighting a fuse to explode a log, help shear a sheep, and assist with sawing a log.
Green Magic Treehouse Resort

In India there are tree houses poised some 90 feet up in the air in a tree top. Each house was constructed by the local tribesmen and built using indigenous techniques. All the comforts of home can be found in these lovely treehouses; toilets, showers, wraparound verandas, and plenty of furnishings to make it very cozy indeed. I think it would be very soothing to sleep in one of these treehouses and be lulled to sleep by the swaying motion.

It might be hard to find a more eclectic collection of rooms in a single hotel. Each room within this London, England hotel is completely different than the next. One room has an oriental theme, another is devoted to Marilyn Monroe, and one other has walls covered in lime green fur with bedspreads to match. There are rooms to suit all tastes in décor.
Queen Elizabeth Hotel and Spa

Designed to resemble a cruise boat, this hotel and spa is located in Turkey. This is a great hotel for those who want to feel like they are on a cruise boat, but don’t want to deal with the sea sickness. The balconies on the outside of the hotel overlook turquoise blue waters of swimming pools surrounding the hotel. There are a total of 325 rooms within the hotel.
ICEHOTEL

This hotel is made purely of ice. It is the most magnificent art piece to be built in a little village 200 km from the Arctic Circle. The Lapland village of Jukkasjärvi is where people gather each year to build this hotel of ice. 20 years in the making, ICEHOTEL grew from a little igloo to a magnificent hotel where people can spend the night, hold business meetings, or just pop in for a visit.
I did come across a couple of hotels that are in the making. Since they weren’t finished, I didn’t add them to my list of 10 unique themed hotels from around the world. One is an underwater hotel that is extremely fancy and probably very expensive as well! What type of unusual hotel have you come across?
