There are many ways to dress to impress on the first date and neither one of them involves skimpy outfits or suffering. Yes, first dates are often tricky and quite unpredictable but that doesn’t mean you can’t both feel and look your best. But, let’s skip the big speech and talk about the best ways to dress to impress on the first date – Okay? Here we go…

Dressing in a way that will allow you to feel good in your own skin is one of the best ways to dress to impress on the first date. You don’t have to wear heels if you don’t like them and you definitely don’t have to opt for flats shoes simply because your date happens to be shorter than you. The same goes for clothes too, so nothing too uncomfortable for the sake of style and looking like a million bucks. Just remember – if you don’t feel comfortable, you’ll act that way too and your body language will be misinterpreted. Yes, a simple ill-fitting dress might ruin your chances for a second date because the guy might think you don’t feel comfortable around him!

If you’re going for a walk, don’t wear your sky-high pumps because when guys mention “walk” they actually mean walking! Going for a picnic presumes you won’t dress like you’re going to a club, of course, while an elegant dinner date means you have a green light to wear your favorite little black dress, fabulous shoes and a matching clutch.

Guys notice everything and by that I mean belts, bracelets and even nails! You know that Miss Sixty belt with big metal buckle featuring a skeleton head with two red stones for eyes? Well, that’s one of my favorite ones and I’ve actually had more guys than girls telling me that it’s cool. Yup, wearing your favorite, eye-catching, interesting accessories is also one of the great ways to dress to impress on the first date. Nobody likes clones and, since your fist date outfit can say a lot about your personality (or the lack of it), you must use it wisely.

Never and I repeat, never wear your brand new shoes, especially if you don’t know how comfortable they are! Even the most comfy-looking shoes can turn out to be trouble-makers and trying to walk “the walk” or even dance in something that’s hurting you won’t help you impress him. Furthermore, you might even trip or fall and the last time I’ve checked, demonstrating that type of “flying” skills wasn’t really popular or appealing.

Unless you’re sure the guy is in the market for an extremely high-maintenance girlfriend, stay away from the glam, red carpet looks. Your dinner-date outfit can be elegant and even sexy but never trashy or skimpy. All other date options require less formal attire and, although you can wear high heels, you should definitely opt for knee length skirts and dresses, pants or jeans and complete the outfit with a cute top of choice. Pick something that’s cute, looks and fits great, something that says you’re a keeper and something that says you don’t need a team of helpers and 9 hours to get ready for a date.

Pay attention to details because they can make or break your entire first date look. You don’t have to make an appointment with your hairstylist but your must make sure your hair is clean. If you’re having a bad hair day, pick it up in a messy bun/pony tail, wear a headband or tie a scarf. The same goes for nails and make-up so, if you don’t have time for complicated things, just go with the natural look. I, for example, prefer the smell of fabric softener over any fancy perfume and guys that are prepared to spend those 15 minutes of their precious time to shave and check their fingernails before the date.

The last one of my tips on the ways to dress to impress on the first date is to always have an ace up your sleeve. A versatile piece that looks great on you and is easily worn with other things. A great fitting pair of jeans, perhaps? Or, maybe a cute tunic dress that looks great when worn with jeans or tights, flats or heels. Wearing something you like very much, something stylish, something that is you and something versatile is the best way to make sure you’ll make a great first impression.
Do you know of some other ways to dress to impress on the first date? I, for example, strongly believe guys like girls that seem natural and human enough to touch. Yup, porcelain dolls may look pretty but, when it comes to real life, I bet most guys want a girl that’s sweet, down to earth, normal, stylish and good looking but not too vain, self-observed or interested in playing dress-up only.
