My house has hard wood floors through out, so I love area rugs. Not only do they add color and design to every room in my house, they provide warm, snuggly feelings on cool mornings. I’ll be honest with you, area rugs can get expensive, so it is important you buy what you truly love. But it will be an investment you can move from room to room, and if you ever move, it goes in the moving truck with you. Here are my ideas of the perfect area rug.

Are you looking for a rug you can make? Rag rugs can be made from old clothing or left over pieces of material. A really sentimental idea would be to take clothes your baby or toddlers have outgrown and make a rug for them (or you!). Or maybe you clothing from you’re your grandpa and grandma. Use whatever is available to you. Most public libraries have books about making rag rugs, so you will not be out any money.

I do not own a rug made from real animal hide, but synthetic ones are just as nice. Maybe you prefer leopard, or zebra, but whichever you love the most, they all look great! These are also nice in children’s room with a jungle theme. They fit in perfectly!

Another idea for a crafty person is whimsical area rugs. Do you like to crochet? How about knitting an adorable, out of the ordinary rug. Theses are super- cute in a bathroom, or kitchen. If cupcakes are not to your liking, think grapes, or the moon, or maybe rainbows. Your creativity is limited only by your imagination!

Rugs can be used in the same way as modern art. Purchase a rug with unique shapes and designed in fabulous colors. You may not want to walk on it! If you coordinate to your room décor it will flow with the rest of your room. At least make sure it works with the colors of your room for the most amazing impact!

To me, flokati rugs scream elegant vintage/retro. These go marvelous with decor from the 6o’s and 70’s. I’ll admit, I do not have one of these rugs, but if the opportunity ever comes my way, I’ll snap it up in a heartbeat. I imagine it in a room decked out in gray and black, and accents of red and white. What do you think?

I love this rug! Bold and beautiful, I can imagine it in my foyer. It truly says, “Welcome to my home!” Maybe you have a screened in porch. Wouldn’t this look absolutely wonderful on your floor? If I ever have a porch designed for out door living, I’m getting one like this!

You love snowmen, but a snowman might look a little out of place in July, right? The answer is simple: Begin a collection of seasonal themed rugs and replace them as the holidays change. Springtime can be flowers, 4th of July is red, white, and blue, Thanksgiving is the funky turkey you found on line! You always have something new and fresh that goes with the season. Awesome idea!
Did you like my collection? Which one was your favorite? Why not leave a comment about your favorite area rug? I
