I love playing video games, but it can be a solitary experience, unless you’re playing a multi-player game. Then it can be a lot more fun, not just you alone, in a dark room, battling an evil corporation, robot, or Sephiroth. But which multi-player games are fun, and which are just lame? After lots of research, and a few hours of game play, I can recommend a few… here are my picks for the 7 best video games to play with friends!

Even completely talentless hacks like me can rock out, if only for a half hour or so. Get your band together, and play and sing like you always wanted to. Just, please, leave the spandex at home. I get the drums!

This is the latest installation of the popular Call of Duty series, and is just as addictive, violent, gory, and fun to play as the ones before it. Play online with friends, or against each other offline. Either way is fun.

I know this game is old, so old it’s only available for PS2, but it’s such a great multi-player game! It’s really impossible to play this game alone, since you need one person to control each character. One character pushes a button to open a gate, the other goes through the gate, then pulls a lever to lower a bridge, so the other character can catch up… and so on. The game play is really unique, and so much fun! Best of all, there’s no running out of lives, just running out of time.

This game is meant to be played by you and your bestie, though the console can play one half of this deadly military duo in a pinch. The game play is amazing, as are the graphics, and again, it’s all about the tactics of playing together. You have to plan your missions, heal each other, draw fire, and more. It’s so involving!

My boyfriend and his sons would play hours of this game, and I always thought they were playing together. Actually, they weren’t. They were stalking and killing each other, giggling like fiends as they blew each other up and ran each other over with little ATVs. They loved it! I thought it was odd, but they thought it was awesome!

This is possibly the longest-running sports franchise in video game history, and there’s a good reason why: the game play is incredibly realistic and engaging. The players are lifelike, the calls and plays completely realistic. There’s truly no better way to school your boyfriend on why your football skills are better than his. Maybe now he’ll let you pick at least some of his fantasy team!

This is my all-time favorite platform game, going back to my junior-high days and my old Nintendo. You know, the console with Duck Hunter, some boxing game, and Mario Brothers… and that might have been it. It’s been updated, and is now even more fun than I remember. I love that you can play WITH or AGAINST each other… and the Wii controllers make it so much fun to play!
Those are my picks for the best games to play with or against friends, but I know there are a lot more out there! And this is all just my opinion, so I know a lot of you hard-core gamers have other favorites, too! Which of these multi-player games do you like best? And which other ones can you recommend, and why?
