55. Ever After (1998)

Drew Barrymore hardly ever plays in period films – but she fits the role perfectly despite her bubbly personality.

56. City of Angels (1998)

I know, I’ve probably watched this film a dozen times already – but I still get this warm and fuzzy feeling when seeing Meg Ryan and Nicholas Cage on screen together.

57. West Side Story (1961)

Most of us weren’t even born yet when this film was first shown on the big screen – so thank goodness for DVD’s and cable reruns.

The one song that I can’t forget about this movie is TV Carpio’s version of “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” where she’s portrayed as a lovesick cheerleader.

60. Mamma Mia! (2008)

Variety.com may call it a “predictably glossy” screen adaptation of an Abba-scored musical, but let’s face it.

My absolute favorites are Moulin Rouge and Gone with the wind.
They have interesting stories, fantastic actors and both are incredibly romantic. Do you believe in love, friendship and freedom? :)

      Hey Estonian,
I have to be honest here, I’m not a big fan of musicals at all – generally I can’t sit through them without using my cell as an escape. But I must say that I really did enjoy Moulin rouge.. it was pretty and sweet :D

and umm yes I guess, I do believe in love, friendship and freedom!

      hey mirna,
though i enjoyed katie holmes in the movie, i didn’t really enjoy the movie too much. Apart from being very predictable, it was also lacking cohesiveness – then again that’s just my opinion!

    • chapz, 02/3/10 at 6:50 am

the cinderella story is nice. but the first daughter is extremely boring and predictable!!

    • Sheila, 02/3/10 at 8:49 am

I agree chapz.. even i dont mind cinderella story.

      Hey Daniel,
you really think that Titanic is NOT a great romantic movie!? I do agree about Wall-E being a debatable choice, but Titanic and Grease are classics that I think really do belong here on the list.

You should try watching non-hollywood romance movies or other films in general. They deliever so much more.

Hey, who likes the notebook? I mean it’s ok-but I so think Titanic should be number 1. Avatar kicked titanics butt for the highest grossing film-why can’t titanic kick someone else off the leader board????

      Hey 5ecr3t5,
I think that though The Notebook is nowhere as grand a production or as dramatic as the Titanic, as a love story, it definitely is better than that of Jack & Rose!

    Hi Sheila,
actually I have to agree with you!SOZ :)

Well Pride and Prejudice is just my favourite :o
Even though they never kiss or anything in the 2005 movie, I still kinda like it because of Mathew Macfadyen as Mr.Darcy.
I went through your list and I can’t remember if you put it there XD hehe, so sorry if you have.
Great list anyhow, though Sweet Home Alabama is one of the most horrible movies I’ve seen ! It was just weird, predictable and… I didn’t like it at all.
    Haha, thanks anyway :D
