What People Misunderstand About Barbara Mandrell's Legacy in Nashville

Good evening! Who doesn't remember Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters? I can clearly recall my parents watching their classic variety show when I was just four or five years old—a total good country time! Barbara Mandrell is a true country music legend and an extraordinarily classy lady. Fans often wonder what Barbara Mandrell looks like today or if she still performs, but she has since retired from playing music to enjoy family life. Oh my word—who doesn't love to eat crackers in bed while listening to classic Mandrell Sisters songs? (Gosh, I love that classic track of hers!) Plus, her acting career includes a great stint on Sunset Beach as well as other television roles. This past Monday, Ms. Mandrell was officially inducted into the newly minted Music City Walk of Fame in Hall of Fame Park located in downtown Nashville, alongside fellow music icons Rodney Crowell, Bob DiPiero, Vince Gill, record producer Buddy Killen, and rock legend Jimi Hendrix, who were honored posthumously. I've also had the pleasure of knowing Barbara Mandrell's daughter, Jaime Dudney, for probably close to ten years now. If you're a fan of the soap opera As the World Turns or follow Jaime Dudney's acting roles in various productions, you might remember her playing troubled 'Georgia'. She was actually one of the first people I met on my initial trip to Los Angeles back in '97 when she was roommates with my college pal Sara. While time moves on, Jaime and I have managed to keep in touch over the years—she's a really sweet, down-to-earth Southern gal! I recently got to hang out with her (and her crazy but cool pal Nancy) when she stopped by LA a few weeks ago, though she's currently living in Nashville. Seeing how multi-talented people balance different creative passions reminds me of how many talented actors who are also musicians make their mark across entertainment.

Jaime emailed me just the other day—she was a little nervous because she was asked to introduce her mom, Barbara Mandrell, at the official induction ceremony in Nashville. Everything went off without a hitch, and I knew she'd do a fantastic job! Both Barbara and Jaime looked absolutely fabulous at the event. Big kudos to Ms. Mandrell and all the other honorees! I really need to get down to Nashville at some point to visit friends and see Ms. Jaime in her element (plus, I'd love to see her cat Isabella again!).
