7 Things I Miss about College ...
7 Things I Miss about College ...

I was up all night recently. I didn’t go to bed until about 7 o’clock in the morning. It nearly killed me. But I used to do that all the time! It was just seven years ago! What happened to me? And so of course I got nostalgic and had to eat chocolate, but I also thought about the things I miss about my college years. I’m kind of surprised by how many there are!

1. Sleep

In retrospect it seems like I got the most sleep ever and no sleep at all during those four years of my life. Because I would get by on something like four hours of sleep a night during the week, and then sleep until the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday. And I had naps back then! I miss naps. Ugh.

2. Energy

What happened? I had so much energy back then. I could go for days as long as I had Starbucks and Pop Tarts. I had all the time in the world because I got everything done as fast as I could. With the exception of my sophomore slump semester, I actually still got my homework done early just so I had more time to do anything else.

3. All Nighters

Right. Staying up until the next morning didn’t phase me, are you kidding? I’d just hop in the shower, get dressed, and go to class -- and take a nap when I got home. Trying to do anything like now results in horrible, terrible things, and I need to remember to avoid it at all costs.

4. Snow Days

Naturally, we didn’t get many snow days, but on the days you find out your only class for that day has been cancelled, it’s a sweet feeling. I’ll have to remember how awesome snow days are some time way later, when I have kids and they have snow days.

5. Irresponsibility

This was the last time in my life I felt all right about messed up priorities. What kind of messed up priorities? The kind where it seemed okay to go to a concert the night before a final exam, get home 2 hours before class, cram, and take the exam in my pajamas. Oh yeah.

6. Cramming

I still love working under pressure, but sadly my mad memorization skills aren’t really necessary at this point in my life. There’s nothing I need to learn in ten minutes, remember for a few hours, and then forget forever. I don’t even remember what I was cramming for … what did I learn in astronomy again?

7. Writing Papers

I know, I know, I really am a complete nerd. But I loved writing papers. I never did them until the last possible minute, I was always in the weeds up against the deadline, and I always made it. Bad, bad habits, I know, but I enjoyed it so much.

I was sort of a boring college kid. I didn’t do beer night or keggers or anything, but still, I had a wicked good time. Would I trade then for now? Now way. Do you have a favorite time of your life? Would you trade?
