7 Simple Steps to a Healthy Lifestyle ...

Are you often tired, lethargic and a little depressed? Do you swing from energizer bunny-style bounciness to feeling like you just cannot get out of bed? Chances are ladies, your lifestyle’s not quite up to scratch; you’ve picked up some bad habits and they’re bringing you down. By now girls, we all know what’s good for us and what’s not, but just in case you need reminding, I’ve compiled a list of 7 steps to healthier you.

1. Eat Breakfast

We’ve all heard it before, girls, and it’s still absolutely crucial. A small, healthy breakfast including complex carbohydrates, natural fibre and fruit is vital for so many reasons. It helps to kick start the metabolism so your body uses its nutrition more efficiently, and it stabilises blood sugar and energy levels for the rest of the day. Studies have consistently shown that thinner, healthier people who live longer eat within three hours of waking up; that’s pretty conclusive, ladies, you should do it too!

2. Stay Hydrated

Water is a necessary component in every single one of our bodies’ many, many functional processes. If we’re dehydrated, our mental activity is sluggish, we can’t digest food properly and we find ourselves plagued by headaches. Plenty of water helps to keep our hearts in good condition, it allows muscles to work at optimum functionality and it promotes an alert, receptive attitude. Drink around 8 to 10 glasses a day to stay hydrated girls, and more if you’re living in a super-hot climate.

3. Exercise Everyday

Yes, ladies, every single day! But, girls, remember that exercise doesn’t always have to mean extreme exertion; no one’s suggesting you climb Everest before breakfast or white-water raft down the Zambezi in your lunch break. Just make sure that you don’t spend all day sitting on you butt. Get out the house or the office and walk briskly for twenty minutes. Anything which raises your heart rate for a sustained period of time and gets your limbs moving is great!

4. Quit Doing the Things You Shouldn’t

And by this, ladies, I mean stop smoking. It causes cancer; it makes you smell bad; it’s expensive, it’s damages your lungs; it’s aging …. The list of reasons not to smoke is endless and, by now, pretty familiar to all modern women. Other things to avoid include eating excessively all the time and binge drinking. Twenty bars of chocolate will not make you feel good, girls, and neither will downing a bottle of tequila every other night. In order to help yourself to attain healthy lifestyle goals, simply cut down on the sugar and alcohol – you don’t need to give them up completely, just don’t make either part of your daily menu.

5. Work on Your Relationships

A healthy lifestyle isn’t just about your body, girls, it’s about feeling happy, healthy and comfortable in your skin. Your friends and partner play a huge role in establishing how you feel so make sure you give your relationships with others the attention they deserve. Similarly, surround yourself only with people you can connect with and who participate in your happiness. Distance yourself from toxic, dramatic and unhealthy friendships and you’ll find yourself becoming gradually more balanced and content as a person.

6. De-Stress

Stress and anxiety go hand in hand with contemporary living, and these two difficult sensations can play havoc with your sense of well-being. Find ways to combat stress in your life by learning to organise your time, your finances and your working environment such that these cause you as little unnecessary stress as possible. Take up a relaxing hobby – such as yoga – and designate the time you spend working on it an anxiety-free window in your day.

7. Enjoy Yourself

It often happens that girls who start actively to pursue the goals of healthy living feel as if they can’t go out, let their hair down and have fun. Precisely the opposite is true ladies; remember it is important to maintain balance in your life, and without a little partying to weigh up against all the work, this isn’t possible.

What do you think ladies? Do you have any tips of your own to share? How do you maintain a balanced healthy lifestyle? Let me know; I’d love to hear from you!
