Fruits are great for your health and well being. But, fruits sometimes bring along fruit flies and that is the beginning of a serious pest problem. Fruit flies do not seem very harmful, since they do not bite, but they can pass diseases through the fruits they touch. Here are some quick ways to get rid of fruit flies.
Fly whisks are a simple way of getting rid of fruit flies, but only if their number is relatively small. Make a fly whisk by taking a stick and tying a few pieces of shredded plastic bags on one end. You can then wave it around to discourage fruit flies from settling on fruits.
Similar to fly whisks, these are useful only if there are a small number of fruit flies. Fly swatters are used to swat at the flies, which can sometimes kill them and make them go squish. Make sure you clean the swatter as well as the area where the squished fruit fly drops.
An advanced version of fly swatters, this is one of the quick ways to get rid of fruit flies. These are like tennis racket with electrified netting that zaps the bugs it touches. Once again, be sure to clean the zapper netting as well as the surfaces where dead fruit flies fall.
This is one of the age old, yet effective and quick ways to get rid of fruit flies. Fruit flies are attracted to rolls of paper that have a sweet scent to attract fruit flies and an adhesive surface to make them stick. Some fly papers also contain traces of poison to kill the fruit flies that settle on it.
This is certainly one of the fun as well as quick ways to get rid of fruit flies. Just set the hair dryer on ‘hot’ and point its back to where the fruit flies are. The fruit flies will get sucked in and then killed by the heat. However, if you are going to use this method, just buy a cheap hair dryer for this purpose.
Take a glass bowl and place a slice of sweet smelling fruit inside it. Cover it tightly with cling wrap and poke a few holes in the cling wrap with a tooth pick. Leave the bowl overnight on your kitchen counter. Fruit flies will be able to get not, but not out.
Similar to the bowl trap, leave a piece of fruit in the oven overnight. Fruit flies will settle on it. In the morning, slowly close the door and set it on high heat. Clean the oven after taking out the remains of the fruit and the fruit flies.
The earlier you spot the first few fruit flies and put an end to their adventure, the better it is. Else you will be left dealing with a whole swarm. Use any one of these quick ways to get rid of fruit flies and keep your kitchen fruit fly free.
