7 Pieces of Underwear That You Can Also Use as Outerwear ...

When Lady Gaga started going out in public in briefs and bodysuits, she really brought all sorts of lingerie into the limelight. This idea of wearing underwear as outerwear has always been on the fringes of fashion consciousness, but now it’s more common than ever. If you fork out good money for fancy lingerie, why not wear them so other people can see? Just make sure you choose your pieces wisely.

1. Vanessa Bruno Crepe De Chine Debardeur

Vanessa Bruno Crepe De Chine Debardeur Price: $124.00 at lagarconne.com
This silk camisole is a delicate addition to any wardrobe. Lace is a fashion mainstay, and the lace trim on this camisole is too beautiful to hide underneath other clothes. I love the on trend blush colour of this top. It would look perfect paired with jeans or tucked into a high waisted skirt.

2. 3.1 Phillip Lim Bow-embellished Shorts

3.1 Phillip Lim Bow-embellished Shorts Price: $150.00 at net-a-porter.com
These cotton shorts are just too cute for words! Perfect for play, you could wear these out with a plain white t-shirt or with a dressy top. The grey colour makes it easy to mix and match with other items in your wardrobe. The bow at the waistband is such a sweet detail and the pleating on the front of the shorts makes for quite a flattering silhouette.

3. Stella McCartney Isabelle Daydreaming Silk-Chiffon Chemise

Stella McCartney Isabelle Daydreaming Silk-Chiffon Chemise Price: $300.00 at net-a-porter.com
What really caught my eye about this was the delicate sheer fabric. Sheer fabrics have been all over the runways lately, so this would be an inventive way to get in on this trend. Instead of wearing it underneath dresses, I’d wear a slip dress underneath it instead. This beautiful chemise deserves to be shown off.

4. Topshop Pale Blue Denim Spot Ruffle Body

Topshop Pale Blue Denim Spot Ruffle Body Price: $$55.00 at topshop.com
This bodysuit has a retro edge that would liven up any wardrobe. The ruffled bra cups are an eye catching detail, and the spot pattern is just lovely. Pair it with other soft pastel colours or sheer fabrics. I can imagine it being worn underneath loose-fitting high waisted shorts with pretty ballet flats. Perfect!

5. Rosamosario Piccolo Silk-crepe and Lace Vest

Rosamosario Piccolo Silk-crepe and Lace Vest Price: $255.00 at net-a-porter.com
This top is a lot of luxury in a little package. I love blush colours for spring, and this vest just feeds into my obsession. The Chantilly lace panels also add interest to the overall design of the top. This top would be perfect to take you through those breezy summer days.

6. La Perla Vintage Plissé Lace Bodysuit

La Perla Vintage Plissé Lace Bodysuit Price: $430.00 at net-a-porter.com
This daring number is definitely not for the faint hearted. The black lace and plunging necklines just scream ‘glamour’. I’d ultimately wear this underneath a floor length skirt or wide-legged trousers. It’s trendy, but still screams of old-school glamour.

7. Topshop Eyelash Nude Lace Longline Bralet

Topshop Eyelash Nude Lace Longline Bralet Price: $40.00 at us.topshop.com
Cropped tops and bralets will be a big trend this summer. If you’re young and brave, wear it with denim shorts and full skirts for a fun look. For a more sophisticated look, try pairing it with longer length skirt. Maybe even add a faux fur coat. If you’re scared of showing midriff, why not wear a button down shirt over it and have the bralet peeking through?

What are your thoughts on wearing underwear as outerwear? Do you have any other ideas or tips for this trend? I’d love to hear!

Back in 1970, we had a big "do" at our country club. Looking for the right gown, I came across it at Saks in Chicago. It was a nile green many layered chiffon with a Grecian V neckline with a fabulously embroidered cumberband. It was the hit of the evening, and no ever suspected that I was wearing my negligee as an evening gown!!!!

Wow, too bad I can't afford any of these items, otherwise I would totally try the underwear as outerwear trend! on the other hand....there's probably no way to do that classy and thrifty i bet eh? fun post

did anyone look at the prices!

I think it's really tacky to wear underwear for outerwear.

I am not a fan of the underwear for clothes trend, but some of these are rather nice. I should send this to some of the girls in my TA class, maybe they can see how to do the trend without looking slutty...One showed up wearing a very see through white lace top with black bra.

That stuff is super expensive.

Hey, I have found that I like wearing half slips with very little or no lace at the hem double as excellent skirts. I have been doing this for some time, and no one knows the difference. I get compliments like.......oh I love your skirt, or oh what a cute skirt you have.
