Your REAL Sexual History

You may be able to pull the wool over your BFF or your boyfriend's eyes, but you should come clean with your doctor. She's not going to "tell" on you, and you can sign papers that prohibit your information from being released to anyone but you. Your doctor needs to know how high at risk you are for STD's and the number of partners you have had and what method of protection you use can help her determine that. And if you are a virgin? Don't be embarrassed to talk about that! Your gyno can let you know what you can do to ease the discomfort when you have sexual relationships the first time.

How Often You Forget to Take Your Pill

Missing your doses are bad for you because of two reasons. First of all, it makes for very unreliable birth control which can result in unplanned pregnancy, and second, it's very bad for your health. Confessing just how often you are forgetting to take your pill can help your doc determine if another method of birth control would be best for you and your lifestyle. There are many options available today, so choose the one that works best for you.

Frequently asked questions

3

You Are Never in the Mood

It could just be fatigue, stress or PMS, but a lackluster sex drive in young, healthy women can also be due to certain birth control pills or an underlying health issue like depression or an inactive thyroid. Talk to your gyno if you are experiencing a decline in your sexual libido and see what she says. She can do tests to find out what the problem is and how to solve it. That's better than suffering, right?

4

You Have Horrid PMS

Ugh, PMS! How we all hate it! And most women do have to deal with it from month to month. But if your PMS is off the charts, there could be another reason. When thyroid and adrenal glands don't function properly, your hormones go haywire and cause crazy bad PMS symptoms. Don't let this happen to you! Speak up and get the problem out of your hair. This is definitely one thing you should tell your gyno, right ladies?

5

If Sex Hurts

If sex hurts you, thats one of the things you should tell your gyno. Sex is supposed to be enjoyable, not painful! Painful sex can be caused by a number of things, including endometriosis, fibroids, or yeast and pelvic infections. Some of those things can be a giant threat to your fertility and health! But all of these issues are treatable IF you seek help. So tell your doc if sex hurts so she can look into it.

If You Have Unusual Discharge

Unusual discharge in color, smell and texture or unexplained bleeding can be a sign of STDs. Keep in mind that every woman produces cervical fluids and discharges monthly around and leading up to ovulation but when you notice something that is way different from normal, it's time to speak up. One of the things you should tell your gyno could save your life!

7

If You Suspect Pregnancy

Your doctor needs to know right from the start if you think you are pregnant. Even if you aren't but you intend to try or you ARE trying, your gyno can give you advice or pointers on making it happen. And if you are already pregnant, she can point you in the direction you need to go from there. Being a parent is a big responsibility, so you may need to make sure you are ready before you take this step!

There now, that wasn't so bad was it? I'm sure your real gyno appointment will be somewhat more uncomfortable than reading this article was, but if you talk about these issues with your doctor, you will leave feeling much better having your fears eased and being in the know about your body.
