Celebrity Stalking at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic ...
By Mary

Snow is still on the ground here in Seattle, and while it’s been sunny outside, it is still miserably cold.

I’ve been spending lots of time thinking about my flying schedule and trying to figure out how to get some place a little warmer. It may be time for a few day get away to Palm Springs.

Palm Springs will be crowded next week, with lots of people in town for the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic (a celebrity pro-am golf tournament) hosted by comedian/actor George Lopez. The tournament runs from January 17-21st.

It will be a good time for star sightings in the desert, as “celebrities” will be in town golfing with PGA tour players. Drawing from diverse fields (actors, musician, business leaders, and politicians), they come to honor the memory of Bob Hope, famous for his philanthropic and humanitarian efforts – as well as his love of golf.

The tournament website lists the following celebrities as confirmed for the event: Marcus Allen, Anthony Anderson, Yogi Berra, Jerome Bettis, Michael Bolton, Glen Campbell, Don Cheadle, Roger Clemens, Alice Cooper, Carson Daly, Oscar de la Hoya, Tom Dreesen, Clint Eastwood (Saturday only), Mike Eruzione, Marshall Faulk, Kenny G, Andy Garcia, Mossimo Giannulli, Taylor Hicks, Samuel L. Jackson, Joe Kernen, Jimmy Kimmel (Saturday only), Huey Lewis, Cheech Marin, Ed Marinaro, Craig T. Nelson, Joe Pesci, Maury Povich, Ray Romano (Friday and Saturday only), Burt Rutan, Boris Said and Sterling Sharpe.

The tournament is played over five days, on four different golf courses: the Classic Club, the Bermuda Dunes Country Club, the La Quinta Country Club, and the Palmer Private Course at PGA West.

Tickets are $25/day, which includes a one year subscription to Golf Magazine. Children under 12 are free. A variety of packages covering multi-day admission and other amenities are also available. While tickets are available in advance online, they are ALWAYS available for purchase at the gate during the tournament. The tournament will also be televised on The Golf Channel.

There’s serious money at stake here. Over $5 million in prizes purses for the golfers, with proceeds from the event benefit Eisenhower Medical Center and local charities. Since the tournament began (in 1960), it has generated over $43 million dollars.
