7 Plans for the Perfect Valentine's Day ...

Valentine's Day is going to be here before you know it. I almost always get caught with no plans made, as if I haven't noticed it on the calendar for the past 364 days. I am determined not to do that this year. I mean, I managed to finally get all my holiday shopping and planning done ahead of time, there's no reason I can't do the same thing here, right? In case you find yourself in the same boat, maybe the following 7 plans for the perfect Valentine's Day will be able to help you out a little!

1 Dinner Cruise

This may sound expensive, but you wouldn't believe how easy it is to luck out and find a really affordable dinner cruise. Now, in some parts of the world, it's maybe not such a great idea to do this in February – but sometimes you also luck out and find an enclosed boat, which can be even more romantic.

Frequently asked questions

2 Picnic in the Park

Again, admittedly maybe not the best choice for February, but this is unquestionably romantic. The Better Half is always gung ho for a picnic in the park – even in the winter. As soon as we get a sunny day, we are out there, so technically, you can pull this off even in February. There are lots of alternatives if you can't manage it, but trust that a picnic is always a good idea, even if it takes place inside.

3 Themed Valentine's Day Surprises

Does your Valentine have a favorite theme? Maybe he or she loves (ahem) Glee, or My Fair Lady, or, I don't know, Rocky Horror Picture Show. The point is, pick one of your Valentine's favorite things, and give him or her themed presents and surprises – or throw a themed party. Just make sure not to give them any inappropriate gifts in mixed company. That's never a good idea.

4 Massage

A massage is a great plan on Valentine's Day, and there are lots of options here. For one thing, you can book a massage for your Valentine so he or she can get properly pampered. You can also book a couples massage, so the two of you can enjoy some luxurious quality time together. Thirdly, you can learn a few massage techniques yourself and surprise your love with a nice, relaxing massage at home.

5 Hotel Getaway

Getting away for a while is always romantic. Whisking your Valentine away to a hotel or to a charming bed and breakfast is always a winner. It's simple but elegant, and sometimes all you need is a little time alone to spend together. Of course, you'll want to plan ahead of time so you can make the proper reservations!

6 Write a Poem or a Song

This option is a killer – and it's free! Get your feelings into words. If you're musically inclined, you can compose a song for your Valentine. But be musically inclined; I once tried to write and compose a Mother's Day song while pounding on the keyboard I didn't know how to play. Bad idea. If you don't play music, no problem. Try a poem instead. It won't really matter if it's Shakespeare quality poetry, it will still mean a lot to the one you love.

7 Cook

Again, you don't have to spend a ton of money to have a great Valentine's Day. Planning a wonderful meal for your lover is an excellent way to spend the day. Cook his or her favorite foods, buy some wine or champagne, light some candles – it will go over really well.

I still have no clue what I'm going to do for Valentine's Day this year. Hopefully I can pluck some ideas from here. What are y'all going to be doing?
