Autumn is my very favorite season, and this is the first fall I’ll be spending in New England. I’m so excited! The Better Half and I have dozens of things we want to do this season, some common and some unique, so I thought I’d share some of the things on our list! Here are 7 activities to do in autumn...

Apple Picking

I’ve actually never been apple picking, but I’ve heard good things. You know, apples, hot cider, doughnuts -- I’m happy. And I’ll confess, ever since I first read The Cider House Rules, I’ve wanted to go to an apple farm. I know I won’t run into another Tobey Maguire, which is sad, but I think the cool, crisp air and the scenery will make up for it.

Backyard Fires

My mother-in-law to-be introduced me to the joys of a fire pit in autumn. Actually, it’s great in the summer as well, but in the fall, when you can bundle up with friends and loved ones and hang out under the harvest moon, it really doesn’t get any better than that. Plus the smell of burning leaves is one of my favorite scents.

Craft Fairs

There are a lot of craft fairs in my area at this time of year, and I want to explore as many as possible. You can find so many great items, many of them perfect for seasonal decoration. Plus I love wandering around the booths and exploring when it’s nice and cool outside.

High School Football Games

Now, I’m specifying high school football games for several reasons. For one thing, the former band geek in me not only loves to see and hear the marching band, especially their halftime show. For another, I love night games. I love the air, I love the cold, I love having to scream and cheer regardless of the game, because you want to stay warm!

Beekman Farm

Anyone familiar with Josh Kilmer-Purcell’s books or his show on Planet Green will know what I mean here. Josh and his partner Brent were actually finishing up an apple picking excursion on the side trip that led to them finding the Beekman. As little fans, my partner and I are eager to explore the farm as well -- and we want some cheese and chocolate!

It’s simple, it might even be considered cliché, but one of my favorite things to do in the fall is hop in the car, turn on the music, and go driving. With so many new areas to explore, this promises to be even better this fall. Thank goodness for the GPS, though!

Cooking Seasonal Foods

I love seasonal foods, and fall’s are some of my favorites. The best part about this activity is that you also get to explore farmer’s markets to find the foods you want. The fruits and vegetables are so delicious when you buy them fresh, and they make some of the most amazing foods.

I can’t wait to get started. I can’t wait to add to this list, either. Does anyone have any suggestions you’d like to share? Let me know, so I can add them to my list!
