Update on Owen Wilsons Condition

Owen Wilson was receiving care Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and is in “good condition,” a publicist for the hospital said.

Meanwhile, Wilson asked for privacy Monday in a statement released through publicist Ina Treciokas.

“I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time,” he said.

Wilson initially was taken to St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica by paramedics, authorities said. Tabloid publications the National Enquirer and Star magazine claim Wilson, 38, cut his left wrist and took an undetermined number of pills.

While it wasn’t known why the “Zoolander” actor was hospitalized, a neighbor said a police car, fire truck and ambulance were outside Wilson’s gated house around noon Sunday.

“These guys were kind of taking their time taking a stretcher out of the ambulance. Then they went into the house,” said neighbor Geoffry White, 61, who lives across the street.

Santa Monica Fire Battalion Chief Jose Torres said Monday the department responded to a call that involved Wilson.

The actor reportedly was treated at his home by EMTs before being brought to the hospital, according to the tabloids.

Wilson was discovered at his home by a family member, possibly his brother Andrew, who made the 911 call, the tabloids reported.

“Entertainment Tonight” reported Wilson later was transferred to Cedars-Sinai to undergo detoxification. Unnamed sources said Wilson also was suffering “dehydration.”

“Entertainment Tonight” also reported that Wilson’s brother, Luke Wilson, was seen leaving Cedars-Sinai Sunday night with brother Andrew. The brothers reportedly drove off with an unidentified woman.

People magazine reported the actor’s parents also visited him at the hospital.

Gossip Web site PerezHilton.com quoted National Enquirer editor-in-chief David Perel as saying:

“Andrew found [Owen] after the suicide attempt and called an ambulance. Both of Owen’s wrists were slashed superficially and Owen had taken an overdose of pills. Owen was found with a nearly empty bottle of pills next to him. He was at his house in Santa Monica.”

Wilson was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on the screenplay “The Royal Tenenbaums.” He reportedly broke up with actress Kate Hudson around Memorial Day.

He got his big break in the 2000 comedy action hit “Shanghai Noon,” starring opposite martial arts star Jackie Chan.

He later co-starred with good friends Ben Stiller and Will Ferrell in the 2001 offbeat comedy “Zoolander.” He got his dramatic break starring with Gene Hackman in the 2001 action film “Behind Enemy Lines.”

Wilson returned to making “buddy comedies” in 2002 with the release of “I Spy,” co-starring with Eddie Murphy.

He paired again with Chan in the 2003 hit “Shanghai Knights,” followed by another turn with Stiller in “Starsky & Hutch.”

Wilson’s biggest film success came in 2005, when he teamed with comedian Vince Vaughn in the smash hit “Wedding Crashers,” which grossed over $200 million in the U.S.

Last year, Wilson provided the voice for “Lightning McQueen” in the Disney/Pixar hit “Cars.”

He later played a supporting role, again with Stiller, in the hit “Night at the Museum.”
