Nicole Richie had better hope that she’s not having a girl, or that baby is in for a serious inferiority complex! On Tuesday’s episode of The Tyra Banks Show, her boyfriend, daddy-to-be Joel Madden, confessed that he’s hoping for a mini-me.

“I want a boy,” he announced, “a little Joel clone.”

The 28-year-old Good Charlotte front man revealed that he was on tour overseas when he found out he was going to be a daddy.

“She called me when I was at the airport in Tokyo,” he said. “She was like, ‘Are you sitting down?’ And she was like, ‘I’m pregnant.’ I was kind of shocked, you know, because that’s never happened to me before. But I was really happy and I was just kind of bummed I wasn’t there with her because I wanted to hold her belly, hug her and get excited.”

So how did he break the good news to Richie’s father, legendary rocker Lionel Richie?

“I was like, ‘Mr. Richie, you are going to be a grandfather.’” At first the former Commodores singer thought that Madden was pulling his leg.

“She said, ‘He is serious, dad.’ Because she plays jokes - she has a sick sense of humor. And he really thought she was joking and I was like, ‘No, she really is,’ and he was like, ‘Wow.” And then he was all good.”

Madden also denied reports that the two are already engaged.

“Hopefully one day,” he said. “I want to…I am in love with her, yes, and I want to have a family with her so I want to get married.

He continued: “I don’t want it to just be like, ‘Oh, the baby’s coming so you got to get married. It’s her moment and I want it to be special and not just the thing that follows the baby.”

Marriage isn’t the only thing the couple is taking slow. They have also agreed not to choose a name until after the baby arrives this winter. “We want to meet the baby first,” he told E!’s Daily 10, in an interview airing Tuesday night. “We’ll get a name. It’ll come to us.”
