The famous Billion Dollar Babes sample sale hits New York and Glam had the chance to catch up with Kate Nobelius, co-founder of the exclusive invitation-only sample sale. She dishes about her holiday plans, one of her most memorable BDB moments, and other BDB scoop!
GD: What was the inspiration behind BDB?
KN: My mother! She would take me along with her to exclusive VIP designer presales when I was young.
**GD: What is the average markdown at BDB?
**KN: Discounts range up to 80% off retail.
GD: What is one of your most memorable moments at a BDB event?
KN: Well, there was this time, a few years back, Marilyn Manson and his girlfriend at the time were checking out at the register with an enormous pile of gorgeous selections from Plein Sud – beautiful coats, fur trimmings…and I commented to the girlfriend on how well she made out, and she said back, oh, it's not for me!
GD: Oops! Honest mistake Kate - I think most of us would have assumed the same thing.
GD: Wow! So Marilyn Manson was at an event! BDB attracts many celebs that come out to shop the event. With all the swag they get, what do you think attracts them to a sample sale event?
KN: I believe it's simply the sport of shopping that brings them out. Finding that one item that suits you perfectly after searching and hunting through tons of merchandise, it's an accomplishment and feels good. Plus I don't know anyone who wouldn't want a pair of Jimmy Choos at 80% off.
GD: So what does the future hold for BDB?
KN: We will be expanding to Dallas and Miami this coming year, and will also be launching an e-commerce site.
GD: Someone with little time to spend at this event – what would you suggest they shouldn't leave without?
KN: Definitely looking over our denim lines and the selections from Vivienne Westwood are amazing – the winter coats are a must. Also, Anya Hindmarch handbags always sell out quickly, make sure to stop by there.
GD: BDB is an all day event and is always busy! What tips can you give us on shopping a BDB event?
KN: Treat it like a sport!
-Dress comfortably: loose, comfortable clothing and shoes that are easy to get on and off
-Study the roster, know what is there and be sure to visit your favorites first
-Know what you're looking for, make a list
GD: So what are your plans for the holidays?
KN: After heading the LA, London and Dublin for BDB, I am really looking forward to heading home to Australia to spend the holidays with my boyfriend, family and friends!
**GD: OMG! You are non-stop! How do you find time to relax and when you do, what are some of your fave ways to relax?
**KN: By eating well and keeping true to my routine I stay relaxed. I love to get facials and massages.
GD: What trend are you looking forward to this spring?
KN: For Spring Summer 07 it's all about the LWD – Little White Dress. I love a white dress with a tan in the summer and LWD's were strong contenders in many of my favorite designers collections.
