This is perhaps one of the scariest sporting accidents ever. Ice hockey goalie Clint Malarchuk actually had his jugular or carotid vein sliced by a skate. He bled profusely and believed he was going to die. However, the team’s trainer reached into his neck and pinched his vein until the suturing began. He received 330 stitches to close his wound. To everybody’s amazement, Malarchuk was back at the goal post defending for his team a week after the injury.

7 Allan Ray

Villinova basketball player Alan Ray had his eye poked out during a game. His eye actually came loose from the socket, but thankfully, there was no permanent damage. He lost his vision in his eye for a short while, but it returned eventually.

As you can see, most of these 7 famous sporting accidents were unintentional and occurred despite the best protection possible. Unlike Evander Holyfield’s case where his ear was intentionally bitten off by Mike Tyson, no one could be blamed for the injuries suffered by these sportsmen. However, when you play a sport, try and be as cautious as possible to avoid accidents like these.
