I’m a very recent convert to Renaissance Faires -- I just went to my first one last year. It’s entirely my fiancee’s fault. I never go in costume myself, but love to see what other attendees put together. Sadly, I didn’t get any truly great pictures this year, but I did go browsing and here are some of the best costumes I’ve ever seen.

Even in the olden days, there were men and women dependent on the leavings of others. This one is not only … stylish, but is truly inventive as well. I love the expression here as well, it really adds to the costume. And is it just me, or are those front teeth really MIA?

I love the details that clearly went into this costume. As well, the lovely lady wearing it clearly took into account what would flatter her coloring. As dainty as the pearls around her throat and the roses ringing her sleeves, this lass is a true Ren Faire wonder.

I’m not entirely sure what this lady’s supposed to be, but I don’t really care. Why? Because the intricacy of the spider webs there are just too original. You can tell a lot of work went into this costume, and it’s beautifully done.

You have to respect anybody willing to spend the day in full out armor. This costume is wicked awesome, and I can’t even imagine how much work -- and cost -- went into putting it together. Mad props to the hottie in the kilt too -- I bet he’s got great legs.

I love the costumes worn by members of the royal party, and this queen’s costume is just tops. I had an Elizabethan Barbie doll that looked just like her majesty here. Extra props for the fabulous makeup as well -- this girl really went the extra mile!

Archers of the Robin Hood variety are common at most Faires, but this one … wow. I kind of can’t look away from the cleavage long enough to see the costume, it’s a little bit mesmerizing. I love the color scheme here, though, and the details are absolutely exquisite -- once you can actually concentrate on them, that is.

This is, evidently, the Autumn Fairy. And this is gorgeous! I love when people go all out, and this is a beautiful example of that. As a bonus, she can use her headpiece as a Thanksgiving centerpiece! No, seriously, that’s a lovely garland. But it would look great on the table, too.

Arrr! I love a good pirate, and there are generally so many Jack Sparrow wannabes at any Ren Faire that it’s like Halloween and Christmas, all rolled into one. I’m especially fond of pirates who are also playing drunk. They are the best.

This little French fried hottie is a staple at my own personal Faire, King Richard’s Faire in Carver, MA. I don’t mean I own the Faire, it’s just the one I go to, of course. However, if I could claim this whip snapping monsieur, I’d do it in a heartbeat. His costume is great because it allows him to shake his booty (often) and frequently lacks a shirt.
So, come on, ‘fess up. I know I’m not the only one. How many of you love the Faire -- and what awesome costumes have you seen?
