Once upon a time, cosmetic surgery was something that only the rich and famous had – and very much in secret. Now, it’s become commonplace, with both men and women opting for all kinds of procedures, and seems almost to be regarded as no more serious than having your hair done. However, there are lots of reasons why cosmetic surgery is best avoided.

Cosmetic surgery involves having a general anaesthetic, and although most operations are carried out safely, there is always the risk of a reaction to the anaesthetic. Plus infections can result. Why risk your health for an unnecessary procedure?
Sorry to break the bad news to you, but we all have to get older. It’s inevitable. Whatever work you have done on your face and body, it will still age and we cannot hang on to our youth forever.

However good the surgeon, it seems inevitable that people will be able to tell you’ve had work done. Madonna, Nicole Kidman, Kylie Minogue, to name but a few – they must be able to afford the best, but that frozen look really isn’t an improvement.

If surgery goes wrong, then you’re looking at more procedures to try to correct it, or living with the results. Either way doesn’t seem a good option to me. If it’s facial work, you can’t hide it either.
These simply aren’t known. If you have a new procedure, then you might as well be a laboratory guinea pig. When I consider the current popularity of treatments like fillers (seen as a quick and easy fix), I have to wonder what damage they could do to the body in the long run.

If you want surgery because you think that bigger breasts or an eye-lift will make you feel better about yourself, then you could be on the slippery slope to continual fixing and tweaking. A breast augmentation will not solve anything if the real problem is low self-esteem. Learn to love your body as it is.
Some people spend tens of thousands on cosmetic surgery. Ask yourself if you really need it, if you can afford it, or if you could do something better with the money. It really is stupid to take out loans and get yourself in debt for cosmetic surgery.

Enough of a deterrent on her own, I think!
Have you ever been tempted to have cosmetic surgery? If so, I hope you will think again. It can be immensely helpful where there is real need (such as after accidents), but is it really worth all the risks just for the sake of vanity?
