It’s Light
I’m not a fan of the heavy foundation. Too much of it gives the face a dead, mask-like quality; it also reflects natural light in an odd, unpleasant way and, unless you have a lot of time on your hands, it can be a real nightmare to blend. Because a tinted moisturiser is essentially a facial lotion, it has a sheerness to it which prevents it from sitting too thickly on the skin. This means it’s light and natural looking, and won’t build up in a waxy flesh-coloured layer in the way a regular makeup can sometimes.
Tinted Moisturizer is Breathable
Because they’re so light, tinted moisturisers tend not to block pores to the same extent as a regular foundation. This makes them a good summer choice, when skin tends to become easily clogged with sweat, oil and make up.
Frequently asked questions
It’s Quick
I’m a little impatient, and when it comes to blending in layers of concealer and base, I often get bored and rush through the process. With an ordinary foundation, this has led me into disaster – the smeary look is never attractive. However, because a tinted moisturiser is practically translucent, it takes no time at all to work into the skin. Thus it’s far more forgiving than ordinary make up, and that suits me down to the ground.
It’s Effective
If you have delicate skin, you may find yourself struggling with your foundation. Often powder based products tend to dry out patches of the face, while liquid concealers have the opposite effect and can give way to an unattractive shininess. Because of the lotion component in a tinted moisturiser, skin tends to stay stable throughout the day – just as it would if your had applied a simple face cream.
Tinted Moisturizer Comes with Added Benefits
You will find that most tinted moisturisers come with a couple of extra advantages. Some are enriched with essential vitamins and nutrients, and most feature a built in SPF to prevent UV damage to your skin.

It Comes in a Wide Variety
Like ordinary moisturisers, most tinted variations come in a broad range to suit a variety of skin types. You will find oil-free versions for those who suffer from oily skin, and intensely nourishing concoctions for people with a drier complexion. This means that regardless of your particular issues, there should be a tinted moisturiser out there for you.
Choose Your Own Coverage
If you like the sound of the tinted moisturiser, but you feel that it might just be a little too subtle for you, you’ll be pleased to know that most ranges produce products to suit a variety of coverage needs; some contain a higher percentage of make up than others, and these are closer to ordinary foundations.
As you might be able to tell, I’m a fan of this kind of product: it’s natural looking, it’s comfortable, it’s easy to apply and it ensures that your skin stays hydrated throughout the day. That concludes my list of 7 reasons to get a tinted moisturiser: do you have any thoughts to contribute?
