7 Songs I Love by Edwin McCain ...

Edwin McCain is hands down one of my favorite artists. I've been a fan ever since his first album. I just recently found out that I barely missed one of his shows, the first one to occur remotely near where I happen to be living. I am still entirely sad faced. To alleviate the heartache, I thought I'd share these 7 songsI love by Edwin McCain!

I'll Be

This is hand's down my favorite. For me, it is the quintessential love song. It is so beautiful. I know it gets overplayed during romantic moments, both in real life and entertainment, but you know what? It deserves that. It is gorgeous. It kind of made me fall in love with Edwin himself!

2

Guinevere

This is a sadly little known song from Edwin's first album, Honor Among Thieves. It is so romantic, and somehow really steamy, without being at all lewd. It's based on a love story like that between Lancelot and Guinevere, and it's just gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.

I Could Not Ask for More

Let me say here that I've gotten a little behind on Edwin's albums. The album that produced this song, Messenger, was the last one I bought. I regret to say that I had no idea he'd put so many more out since then! But I am getting caught up, I promise. That being said, I love a ton of songs on Messenger, including many of the ones that didn't get a lot of mainstream action. However, this is another one of those killer Edwin love songs I simply cannot resist.

4

Shooting Stars

Scream & Whisper is one of Edwin's albums that I missed, and it's the first I got caught up on in writing this post. From that album, his cover of “Maggie May” is amazing, “Farewell to Tinkerbell” is completely magical, and “Save the Rain” is gorgeous, but I fell in love with “Shooting Stars” the first time I listened to it.

5

Solitude

This is the first song I ever heard from Edwin McCain and, ironically, it wasn't even because of him that it caught my attention. At the time, I have to say that I was a huge Hootie and the Blowfish fan, and Darius Rucker does backup on the song. They sounded so much alike! As soon as I found out that the lead singer was a southern boy named Edwin, however, I ran right out to buy Honor Among Thieves. It was definitely one of the best music decisions I ever made.

Prayer to St. Peter

I love Edwin's haunting songs, like “Ghosts of Jackson Square” and “Holy City” – which frankly didn't make the list only because Youtube is sorely lacking in Edwin goodness. This is another one of my favorites, because of the imagery in the lyrics. No one knows how to paint pictures with words and poetry like Edwin.

What Matters

I love this song for its message. Edwin has a great way of letting you know what's really important in life. This is a great example of how he gets his point across.

I wish I could include a dozen more songs on here, and I might have to make another list as soon as I get through listening to his latest four albums. He is another huge inspiration for me, and I hope I get the chance to see him perform again soon. Does anyone else have any Edwin favorites they'd like to share or recommend?
