Owen Wilson was receiving care Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and is in âgood condition,â a publicist for the hospital said.
Meanwhile, Wilson asked for privacy Monday in a statement released through publicist Ina Treciokas.
âI respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time,â he said.
Wilson initially was taken to St. Johnâs Health Center in Santa Monica by paramedics, authorities said. Tabloid publications the National Enquirer and Star magazine claim Wilson, 38, cut his left wrist and took an undetermined number of pills.
While it wasnât known why the âZoolanderâ actor was hospitalized, a neighbor said a police car, fire truck and ambulance were outside Wilsonâs gated house around noon Sunday.
âThese guys were kind of taking their time taking a stretcher out of the ambulance. Then they went into the house,â said neighbor Geoffry White, 61, who lives across the street.
Santa Monica Fire Battalion Chief Jose Torres said Monday the department responded to a call that involved Wilson.
The actor reportedly was treated at his home by EMTs before being brought to the hospital, according to the tabloids.
Wilson was discovered at his home by a family member, possibly his brother Andrew, who made the 911 call, the tabloids reported.
âEntertainment Tonightâ reported Wilson later was transferred to Cedars-Sinai to undergo detoxification. Unnamed sources said Wilson also was suffering âdehydration.â
âEntertainment Tonightâ also reported that Wilsonâs brother, Luke Wilson, was seen leaving Cedars-Sinai Sunday night with brother Andrew. The brothers reportedly drove off with an unidentified woman.
People magazine reported the actorâs parents also visited him at the hospital.
Gossip Web site PerezHilton.com quoted National Enquirer editor-in-chief David Perel as saying:
âAndrew found [Owen] after the suicide attempt and called an ambulance. Both of Owenâs wrists were slashed superficially and Owen had taken an overdose of pills. Owen was found with a nearly empty bottle of pills next to him. He was at his house in Santa Monica.â
Wilson was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on the screenplay âThe Royal Tenenbaums.â He reportedly broke up with actress Kate Hudson around Memorial Day.
He got his big break in the 2000 comedy action hit âShanghai Noon,â starring opposite martial arts star Jackie Chan.
He later co-starred with good friends Ben Stiller and Will Ferrell in the 2001 offbeat comedy âZoolander.â He got his dramatic break starring with Gene Hackman in the 2001 action film âBehind Enemy Lines.â
Wilson returned to making âbuddy comediesâ in 2002 with the release of âI Spy,â co-starring with Eddie Murphy.
He paired again with Chan in the 2003 hit âShanghai Knights,â followed by another turn with Stiller in âStarsky & Hutch.â
Wilsonâs biggest film success came in 2005, when he teamed with comedian Vince Vaughn in the smash hit âWedding Crashers,â which grossed over $200 million in the U.S.
Last year, Wilson provided the voice for âLightning McQueenâ in the Disney/Pixar hit âCars.â
He later played a supporting role, again with Stiller, in the hit âNight at the Museum.â
