I was browsing Women's Wear Daily this morning and came upon an article about the feud between Giorgio Armani and New York Times fashion writer, Cathy Horyn (love her!). Apparently her refreshingly honest reviews of the shows struck a chord with Mr. Armani (albeit the wrong chord) and he took major offense over a statement she made about a pair of trousers from Armani's fall line. Armani retaliated by questioning her eyeglasses and claimed he banned her from the Emporio show (although both Armani reps and Ms. Horyn asserted that she never planned on attending as she does not review second lines). He then stated she is allowed to say she "does not like his work" but she is not allowed to say why because what she said was "bullshit". He further elaborated that he is a true creative whereas American designers only copy.(All direct quotes from Armani in WWD)
Giorgio, Giorgio, so she thinks your pants look like limp and clingy gym pants, who cares! Gwyneth Paltrow and friends happen to like the limp and clingy look so you'll still be a celeb fave and be seen all over the red carpet come Oscar night. Take a chill, be like the American designers and see it as room for improvement. (Our constitution calls it Freedom of Speech. I know, so American right?) The funny thing is, she actually praises 99% of the show, but what does she know, according to Armani, she needs new glasses.
What do you guys think? You want to continue reading reviews from fashion editors subjected to censorship?
