Kelly Clarkson Live in Los Angeles: Concert Review & Setlist
Kelly Clarkson Los Angeles Concert Highlights • Setlist and Final Thoughts • More ...
Here is a detailed look back at the unforgettable Kelly Clarkson concert in Los Angeles over at the Gibson Amphitheatre. First off, I really should have paid for the preferred parking, which was only $20. I opted for the regular parking priced at ten bucks, but let me tell you, that is a long walk. To be completely honest, the crowd hanging around Universal CityWalk felt a little sketchy. Since I was by myself, I probably took more notice than usual of my surroundings, and I definitely picked up my pace along the path to the venue.
I sat outside for a bit, enjoying my usual pre-concert whiskey sour, until the opening act finished up. That is when I met my new pals, Bernice and Ella. They were both super cute, way adorable, and newly single after recent breakups. They were enjoying a girls' night out, and I definitely need to introduce them to some great guys. We got to talking, and the ladies mentioned they had extra tickets. I ended up sitting with them in a much better seat than I originally purchased. I really enjoyed having the company, as going to concerts alone can be a bit lonely when you cannot find someone to tag along. I am thrilled I got to meet some new friends, and I am sure we will be crossing paths again soon.
I was surprised by how crowded the venue was. The audience was completely pumped to see her perform, proving she has an incredibly devoted fan base. I did happen to have a few slightly intense Kelly fans sitting right behind me. They knew the words to each and every song and made no qualms about singing out loud. They even had a strange ritual of standing in a line and holding each other during "Because of You." I was on the mellower side, especially since it was a Sunday evening. Ms. Clarkson kicked things off by draping herself on a stairway in the same stunning red dress featured on the cover of her album My December. It was a visually striking moment and a fantastic way to open the show.
Kelly Clarkson Los Angeles Concert Highlights
The lights went down, and she came busting out in black pants and a satin blue top, later adding a vest to the ensemble. She ripped right into "One Minute" and delivered a fantastic performance. If you are looking for the Kelly Clarkson setlist, you will find it below. She included material from almost all her albums, though she skipped over most of her first record, Thankful. The top three highlights for me included two incredible covers and one of her own tracks.
"Up to the Mountain": A beautiful rendition of the Patty Griffin classic.
"Home": A soulful take on Marc Broussard's hit.
"Chivas": Played during her powerful encore.
Of course, she ended the night on a high note with "Since U Been Gone." Even if you are not a huge Kelly fan, you have to admit it is a great song. Deny it all you want, but you secretly love that track.
Right as she was singing the final song, I spotted country diva Reba McEntire being escorted out of the building. Kelly naturally mentioned her during the show. The two vocal powerhouses had recently announced their mini-tour, 2 Worlds 2 Voices, which promised to be an incredible experience. Kelly was absolutely awesome live. While I might not listen to her every single day or recite all her lyrics, the woman can truly sing. She really held up live, and more than anything, I was impressed by her vocal control. She has completely moved on from being America's first Idol. That is ancient history, and it is clear we will be hearing her voice for years to come.
Setlist and Final Thoughts
I have a ton of respect for the fact that she has proven herself time and time again. She is the real deal, and all the naysayers can simply step aside. I am so glad I went out that night. I got to hear some amazing live music, made new friends, and got myself out of the house. You really cannot beat that. I will be heading to another show soon to see the incredibly talented Mary J. Blige downtown at Peacock Theater (formerly Nokia Theatre). I know it is going to be a legendary show.
