London was well and truly excited for the first Chanel catwalk show in the capital last night.
The front row fashionistas included Lily Allen, Thandie Newton Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Natalia Vodianova, Emma Thompson and Emma Watson.
The collection might have been designed and created in Paris, but the feel was London through and through especially with the model’s beehive hair, which was clearly inspired by singer Amy Whinehouse.
London is usually glossed over by the rest of the fashion world when it comes Fashion Week, as buyers from the New York shows tend not make it to Europe until Milan Fashion Week. Hopefully, this show went some way placing London firmly back on the international fashion map.
There was a time when there were only 2 shows. Spring and Fall. Today Chanel have seven: two each for ready-to-wear and couture, plus cruise aka resort, pre-collection and this latest initiative.
The clothes were beautiful and delicate featuring knee-length black coats which were fitted at the bodice and then ballooned out, Tudor-style dresses, knickerbockers, cream mini dresses, ruffles and frills. A nice touch was the signature quilted black Chanel bag reworked as the Union Jack.
Jewelled details appeared in hair, on shoes, coats, dresses and even a mens smoking jacket.
The clothes exhibited last night will be available from May.
