Britney Spears troubles seem to have provided her flailing career with a welcome boost.
In the week that saw her lose primary custody of her two sons to ex-husband Kevin Federline, her comeback single ‘Gimme More’ topped industry bible Billboard’s download chart - and now she’s planning to give rehab another go.
‘Gimme More’ debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Digital Songs with 179,000 downloads. And after four weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, today, the track soared from 68 to the number three spot.
It is her fifth singles top 10 and her best showing on the list since the smash hit song “Hit Me Baby One More Time” hit No. 1 for two weeks in January 1999. Her last top 10 was “Toxic” which peaked at No. 9 in March 2004.
The positive news came as it was revealed that Britney, who failed to attend a custody hearing yesterday, will only be allowed to visit her sons via visits monitored by social workers.

In a temporary arrangement, a judge decided at a three-hour private hearing attended by Federline that her ex-husband should retain primary custody of sons Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one-year-old, until the next court hearing at the end of October.
And now it looks like the troubled singer is finally willing to sort out her life and check into rehab in a bid to win back her two children.
Sources close to the singer claim she is preparing to go to Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Centre in Antigua on Saturday.
Sources claim Britney is now finally accepting that she has a problem. We’re told: “She said she is willing to do whatever it takes to get her boys back, including giving rehab a serious go this time.”
This will be the second time this year that Britney’s been at the Crossroads Centre in the Caribbean. She checked in for little more than 24 hours in February.
Britney also spent a month at Promises rehab in Malibu.
A source said: “Britney’s team has been working closely with her attorneys to figure out a way to get the babies back from Kevin.
“She is surrendering herself to rehab for treatment for depression and alcohol.”
The new custody arrangement will stay in place until the hearing on October 26
