Yay! Not long to go until spring officially starts! It’s my favourite season, and always makes me feel more optimistic. I don’t enjoy the cold weather at all! There are lots of things I love about spring, and here are just some of them.
1. Warmer Weather
I think most of us must look forward to the end of winter and the start of the warmer weather. What’s not to love about it? Feeling the sun on your face, being able to get out more, and feeling more positive. Plus you can look forward to cheaper heating bills!
2. New Year
Did you know that the year used to begin on 25th March? Maybe it’s a trace memory, but I always think of the year as starting with spring, not in January. It certainly makes more sense to me, as the cycle of life and growth is beginning again.
3. Flowers
I don’t miss much about living in the UK, but one thing I do miss is the mass of daffodils that are so emblematic of spring. Flowers really do add beauty to the environment, and daffodils are planted everywhere in the UK. It gave me a strong feeling that warmer weather and longer days were on the way.
4. Lighter Clothes
In my part of Spain, winters are not as cold as in the UK, but it still gets pretty chilly. So it’s great when you can put away your winter clothes and go out without having to pile on the layers. This is especially good as you don’t get so hot when you go into shops with central heating on full blast!
5. Longer Days
I am not, never have been, and never will be a morning person. So I don’t really like the short winter days, as I don’t see much daylight. But then I don’t suppose anyone likes the short hours of daylight. As spring approaches, we can see the days getting longer.
6. Ducklings
I’m not very sentimental, but I am an animal lover, and there’s something just so sweet about fluffy little ducklings. Watching them paddling hard to keep up with their mother is adorable. They’re definitely a sign that spring has arrived.
7. Outdoors
After being cooped up indoors for what seems like eternity, or almost freezing to death every time you go out, it’s great being able to enjoy going out more. It’s warmer, it’s sunnier, and you can enjoy sitting outdoors. Going for walks is more fun, and I also like being able to have a coffee at a table outside.
8. Optimism
Doesn’t spring just make you feel so optimistic? I know that I’m much more enthusiastic, energised and full of plans. I like to get out more and be more active. It’s probably the sun affecting our brain chemistry, but spring makes me want to do so many things!
What is your favourite season – are you a ‘spring’ person, like me, or do you prefer the cold winter weather?
