7 Radical Cures for Obesity ...

Obesity is a really big problem of the modern society – junk food, stress, busy lifestyle, pollutants, processed food and genetics have all played a really big role in that. And, since the number of obese children is on the rise, I dare to say that we are not even close to seeing the end of this problem. I’m sure you know obesity can be a huge health risk so being abnormally overweight unfortunately means a person will probably not live to see his grandchildren. Do desperate times cause for desperate measures? Here, take a look at this list of 7 very radical alleged and proven obesity cures and tell me what do you think about it.

1 Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric surgery or gastric bypass is, by far, one of the most radical cures for obesity. This procedure involves significantly reducing the stomach size and bypassing the small intestine so the patient can expect a quick, radical weight loss. Now, this procedure definitely takes the person out of the risky zone for developing many obesity induced diseases but it’s not a magical solution and gastric bypass patients don’t hide that their life and habits had to change significantly after this surgery. Tiny portions, lots and lots of supplements and the increased risk of anemia and osteoporosis might sound bad but that’s what they had to choose in order to survive long enough to enjoy retirement and grandkids.

Frequently asked questions

2 Gastric Sleeve

Gastric sleeve surgery is a variation of the aforementioned gastric bypass. It doesn’t involve bypassing the small intestine and only 60-80% of the stomach is removed so, for me, it definitely looks like a better option. The downside to it is that the excess stomach is removed completely so, after the procedure is done, there is no going back.

3 Gastric Band

This type of weight loss surgery is less invasive and reversible. The point is, again, to section out a small piece of the old stomach so a person can eat normal quantities of food and feel full. However, unlike the other two surgeries, no cutting is involved so a band that separates the new, smaller, stomach from the old, bigger one, can be removed anytime in the future.

4 Reality Shows

I know it sounds a bit over the top, but if you’ve ever watched “Weight Watchers or “The Biggest Loser” contest, I’m sure you see my point. A lot of people need that extra motivation in order to give their 110%. Think about it, how many times have we all tried to hide from ourselves? How often have we had a great excuse to eat that “last piece of chocolate”? Well, you can’t hide from the eyes of the public and, if losing weight and starting a new, healthier life comes with a bonus prize and a celebrity status, why not give it a try?

5 Radical Diets

I’ve come across this “amazing cabbage soup diet” some time ago and I’ve heard many people swear this diet is the best thing for shedding off all those unwanted pounds. Now, most doctors say that losing 10 pounds in one week can’t be good and that this one, like all other radical diets, excludes important food groups and makes the person feel weak and lightheaded. I haven’t tried it so I don’t know if it works, so if any of you ladies knows more about it, do tell, please.

6 Liposuction

I support cosmetic surgery to a certain extent but I’m really not in favor of this dangerous (and should I add extremely painful?) procedure. Sure, sucking out excess fat makes the person look better but this doesn’t solve the real problem and it definitely doesn’t give answer to the important question– why did the person get overweight in the first place? Being overweight has to do with genetics but it also has to do with the person itself. So, if a he/she didn’t work out the emotional issues connected with overeating nothing will stop her from making the same mistake again.

7 Liquid Diets

Diet consisting only of liquids started gaining popularity once the famous rapper, 50 Cent, used this weight loss method to get rid of his muscles in order to play a role of a cancer patient. According to the press, 50 cent has managed to drop about 55 pounds in just 9 weeks! I’m sure you’ve seen a picture of him after this amazing transformation so you definitely know what I’m talking about. The diet does work but it’s definitely not a healthy way to lose weight, every nutritionist will tell you that. So I am definitely considering this a radical weight loss method nobody should try without consulting a professional first.

Now, when all this has been said (or written) I would really like to hear your opinion. Do you know anybody who had a weight loss surgery done? And what would you choose if you were in this position – fast surgery-induced weight loss or a healthy but slow exercise and diet routine?
