A Handmade Love Note
One romantic thing to do this Valentine's day would be to spend some time finding some cute notelets or a pretty card and write your partner a handwritten note. Leave it by their bed so when they wake up, that's the first thing they will see. That's just the kind of thing that will make their day!
Take the Day off
If you can, try to get the day off. Not only will this give you more time to plan and enjoy your Valentine's day, it will also keep you relaxed and give you a much deserved lie in! Don’t fret if you can’t get the day off, though, you can have just as much fun after work!
Frequently asked questions
Prepare a Picnic
Most people forget about lunch on Valentines Day, but it can be the perfect way to have some fun! Pack a picnic basket with all of your favourite foods, and find somewhere picturesque to share lunch. Whether you feed each other or just spend the time talking, you are sure to have a great time! Don't forget...your picnic basket is virtually incomplete without a yummy dessert!
Treasure Hunt
Write a series of love notes, with clues about your plans. Hide them in different places, such as on the bed, on the fridge and in their work bag. It's a fun twist and will add some much needed excitement to the normal, mundane Valentine's Day especially if the two of you are working.
Create a Holiday at Home
Have you seen “It’s A Wonderful Life”? There’s a scene in it in which the bride has to ‘create’ a honeymoon after her plans get ruined. Take inspiration, and go on holiday at home! Dress as if you are there, eat the right foods, listen to music....maybe even decorate your house according to the theme. This is also a great way to remind your partner of your honeymoon, if you’ve had one!

Look after Them
Simple things, such as having a cup of tea ready when they get home or running them a bath and lighting some candles, are often the most appreciated. Show them how much they mean to you by making them feel good about themselves and they are sure to return the favour!
Simple things, such as having a cup of tea ready when they get home or running them a bath and lighting some candles, are often the most appreciated. Show them how much they mean to you by making them feel good about themselves and they are sure to return the favour! Take time to listen to their day, offer a shoulder massage, or plan a special evening filled with their favorite activities. These thoughtful gestures can strengthen your bond and create lasting memories, making the day even more special.
Give Them a Massage
Massage is a brilliant art, for both the giver and the receiver. It’s also free, which is perfect if you are saving the pennies! So read up online on different kinds of massages. My favorite is a foot massage. Grab some candles, towels and scented massage oil, and take it in turns. This is the perfect money saving yet romantic way to celebrate!
Go out of Your Comfort Zone
One of my favourite, most incredible Valentine's dates was going paintballing. Not very romantic, and I only went to keep my boyfriend happy, but I knew he’d love it and I wanted to surprise him. It was me that got surprised in the bargain though! We both had so much fun, and it bought us so much closer. Think about what your partner might like, and see if you can arrange it. You might enjoy it!
Learn Something New
Whether you learn to dance or to make chocolates, book a class doing something completely new together. You’ll have a lot of fun, and have a new skill! If you can’t afford a course, try buying a chocolate making set online, or a dance DVD, or even just cooking a meal you haven’t tried before.
Book a Hotel
Spend the night of the 13th apart, and pamper yourself. Then dress up and meet in the bar of a fancy hotel, before having a meal and finally retiring upstairs. There are usually some good deals around at this time of year, and you’ll have more fun then you’ve had in months. It's a great way to spice up your relationship and bring the spark back.
Recreate Your First Date
What better way to spend Valentine's Day then to reenact your first date?! Go back to the where it all started by going to the same restaurant, cafe or venue that you two started your love affair and look at how far the two of you have come.
Take a Dance Class
Taking a dance class together is a fun way to get your heart pumping and see each other in action! It's not about getting the dances down perfectly. It's more about getting close and learning something together. Then, the next time you're at a party, the two of you can show off your moves!
Send a Care Package
If you happen to be in a long distance relationship and can't see each other in person, send your sweetie a care package. Fill a box with their favorite treats, maybe some reminders of dates you went on in the past, photos, a letter or poem and plans for the next time you meet up!
Tour the City
Why not spend your special night hitting some of your city's most romantic spots for the big night? Even if you don't live in a big city, there is bound to be a place that has a great view that you can enjoy or a new area to explore together. Check the local paper or websites to see if there are any special events going on. Who knows what great spots you might stumble upon?!
Eat in
No need to go out to the crowded restaurants, make a nice home cooked meal at home and enjoy a romantic night in just the two of you.
Take a Painting Class
There's tons of places now that do wine and painting classes; take one of those for a fun new date idea. You don't have to be an artist to enjoy yourselves!
Write Letters
Spend the evening writing each other letters to share at a later date. Like, "for when you're mad" or "for when you need to be reminded how much I love you".
Reminiscing
If you're a seasoned couple it's always fun to pull out the old photos or videos or even sit back and recount all the good things of your relationship. And it'll even make you appreciate what you have so much more.
Stay in the Bedroom
We all know the benefits of having romance in a relationship. So instead of stressing about where you're going to go or what you're going to do, how about just promise each other an uninterrupted night in the bedroom?! No phones, tv, or distractions. You can do the naughty, or snuggle, or talk. But have that time alone to rekindle the flame. :)
Whatever your budget, there is a way for you to get close to your partner and have lots of fun this Valentine's Day. Just make sure that you remember to enjoy yourself, and have a great day too! Have you got a fun way to celebrate St Valentine's Day? Please let me know!
