Ask Questions That Allow for More Discussion

Supplying a list of open-ended questions will give others a chance to elaborate and provide you with as much information as possible. ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ questions will only enable you to figure out if you are heading in the right direction, but they won’t necessarily help you quickly gather all the steps you need to complete next.

7

Create a Blog if You Can

Blogs allow others to contact you and find out what you have to offer. They also provide a place for you to chat with people who are interested in finding out more about your business. You can also set up your blog so that it is a form of income as well. This enables you to earn money while still making business connections.

6

Don’t Rely Solely on the Internet for Connections

The Internet isn’t the only place where networking goes on. A lot of excellent resources cannot be found in the net, due to the fact that not everyone is connected to the rest of the world via computer. Go to local organizations or social groups and check them out first-hand. It’s usually much easier to get a feel for a group or a person if you can personally meet them.

5

Don’t Be Afraid of Approaching Anyone, Even the ‘Big Guys’

Even if you aren’t associated with a large corporation, this doesn’t mean you can fraternize with other large businesses. Despite the difference in size, a small business and a large one still have a lot in common. You might be surprised at the amount of information you can learn from the ‘Big Guys’. They had to start out small at one time, so why not find out what mistakes they had to make to get where they are today, in order to avoid making the same mistakes.

4

Follow through with Any Leads You Are Given

If someone points you towards a particular website or group, then check it out immediately. Waiting until you have more time on your hands to pick up on a lead that someone offers might give the impression that you aren’t really interested in the information that person provided. It could also be the one true connection you’ve been searching for, which would eliminate a lot of time spent fiddling around with less successful networking opportunities in the future.

Be Able to Discuss with Others Exactly What You Are Seeking

People can’t help you if you don’t know exactly what you want. It might help to write down your goals and what you are trying to find out while engaging in networking. Have this list nearby when you are working on networking with others.

2

Find Groups That Intrigue You

If you are attracted to a group, figure out why. Is it the subject the group focuses on? Is it the people within the group? It just might be because the group has something you can use to boost different aspects of your business. When you find a group you’re interested in networking with, write down any contact information you might need. Keep all this info on file in a place where it isn’t going to be accidentally tossed out with the trash.

See What You Can Offer Others

Try to be a resource others are drawn to. Not only do you need to be actively seeking out others who can help you, but it’s also in your best interest to be a good link in the networking chain that others can rely on as well. If other people find you to be a good resource, then they will be more likely to direct others towards you as well.

I hope these 8 tips on networking successfully will give you the necessary tools to increase your connections and help your business to grow. What are your current tactics for networking with others?
